FELL INTO A CE8BPOOL.
A threo year old Portuguese girl fell
Into a cesspool In Kewalo this morning
and might have been killed hnd It not
been for tlio presence of mini! of Rego,
tlio stableman for the Union Express
Co. It seems that the cesspool had
been partially pumped out yesterday
anil the cover had not been replaced.
The child. In playing about the place,
fell in. A lot of Portuguese gathered
about the cesspool but. Instead of doing
anything for the child, they simply
stood around, wrung their hands and
cried. When Rego found what the mat
ter was, he ran from tbo stables, grab
bed a long legged boy by the legs and,
lowering him into the cesspool, In
structed him to take hold of the child.
Tho boy followed Instructions and Ra
go pulled both out on dry land.
FEARLESS ON THE SPOT.
Just as tho fire alarm whistle sound
ed last night for the flro on tlio Olym
pic, tho tug Fearless, all ready for no
tion, was alongside tho vessel prepared
to light tho fire. It had been cxttn
gtilshed, honeer, nho-it ten minutes
after It was dlscniered, so he help of
tho tug was not needed.
The frerjutney of Area on tho water
front lately has kept fresh in tho minds
of tli use Interested in shipping, tho
need of protection other than the regu
lar forco nt flio Ughteia. Had the flro
spread last night, there Is no telling
what a gieut loss would havo been en-
tnlled as, In the vicinity of tho Olym
pic, woro many fchlps' closely packed
together and many thousands of dol
lars wot th of cargo on the wharves.
FIRU ON THE OLYMPIC,
An alarm of fire shortly betoro 1
o'clock this morning was turned In for
a blaze dlscocred aboard tho bark
Olympic lying at Irmgard wharf. Tho
flro was In tho forebold and started In
soma rtihbish and debris of tho cargo
whi h hnd been discharged. Tho steam
er Ilanalel lying alongside tho big
baric rendered valuable assistance In
qiynchlng tho blazo, as her flro crow
soon after tho Hie was discovered had a
big stream of water playing on tho
burning rubbish. Had it not been for
tho timely work of tho Hnnalol the lino
bark might havo been ecrlously dam.
HORSE LEAPS OVER PALI.
Yesterday nt noon n frightened
hcrso leaped1 over th'o guard rail on
the Pall road dragging a buggy with It
down tho precipice Luckily, tho OC'
cupautB of the rig, Ah 1'al, n Chlnes.0
and two Hawaiian women, had alight
ed. Tho forco of tho wind and tho un-
certain actions of the liorso mado them
afraid. Tho horso went over. Just ho
low tho guard house. Ah Fal returned
and telephoned Into town fur a hack.
The rig belonged to the Walklkl Inn
