illegally convicted of tape have been
given their rights under the constitu
tion ot the United States. If these
men were guilty of the crime for which
they were held hanging Is too good
for them, but It Is well to contemplate
the character of this crime from tho
standpoint of the "transition period"
government tho best on earth. Go
ing over the list of men illegally con
Icted of rape, the first one was sen
tenced to Imprisonment for three years.
Another man Illegally convicted of
assault with a deadly weapon wan sent
to prison for seven years. In the esti
mation of the transition period gov
ernment the best on earth assault
with a deadly weapon is a doubly seri
ous crime when compared with rape.
Another man Illegally convicted of rape
was sentenced to four years' Imprison
ment, while Judge Stanley sent a man
to tho reef for fifteen years for lar
ceny In the first degree. On this basis
the best government on earth places
larceny of pioperty to be thrice con
demned when compared with ravishing
Of tho four men Illegally convicted
of the crime of rape, but one was given
the life sentence. All this leads the
community to believe that the echo
