KANSAS WHEAT CROP.
The farmers ot the Kansas wheat
belt arc getting teady to thresh their
vast wheat crop of this year. It Is
estimated that tho ciop will reach the
ninety million bushel mark, which Is
10.000,000 bushels short of the predle
lions at the earlier part of the season.
Even as It Is, the crop l the best ever
raised In the Sunllower State, last ear
reaching only 76,000,000 bushels, and
the jcar beforo 50,000,000 bushels.
Tills year more than 5.000,000 acres of
land were sown In wheat and 15,007
extra men were Impoited to assist In
harvesting the vast acreage. The In
come from this crop of wheat will bo
more than $30,000,000, or $300 to every
farmer In tho State. The wheat rais
ed, If placed on a single railway tiack
reaching from Wichita to New York
would All cery car thereon.
Next year even more land In Kansas
will be planted In wheat. It has come
to pass that Kansas Is the kingdom of
wheat. Already the State leads all
others In the production of this cereal.
I.aml that was a few jears ago given
over to sunllower patches Is now being
turned Into glowing fields of yellow
grain. The cause of this abundance
ot grain Is that there Is more rainfall
in Kansas than in former years. This
Ir caused, It Is said by the weather
men, by the fnct that more tices aie
being planted, and from a vast prairie
tho State Is rapidly becoming well
clQthcd with forests.
