JAPANESE FINED.
The case ot the eight Japanese
charged with assault and battery on a
native boy, Kalhale by name, was
completed In the Police Court yester
day afternoon. The men were found
guilty and sentenced to pay a fine of
$10 and rosts each. It wan nrnven ho.
yond all doubt that the men did tako
the native boy into a room In Kakaako
and beat him unmercifully. It was
also brought out during the testimony
that they defied a polce officer In tho
performance of his duties and refused
to recognize the authority behind tho
badge. One of the Japanese had his
eye effectually closed up by Richard
eon, a native police officer who hurried
to tho help of Punohu, the first man on
the scene. The Japanese who wero
put on the stand by the defense, said
that they did not do a thing to tho
native. The police officers who testified,
stated that there were In the neighbor
nood of thirty Japanese In the rooom
when they first arrived. The majority
of these evidently understood the au
thority behind the police badges for
they escaped out of the back door.
At the special meeting ot the Doard

give the proprietors ot the slaughter
