Informer Can Claim
Tho Treasury Depattmcnt has re
cently made it ruling affecting the gov
ernment of steam vessels and steam
boilers which will he of Interest to
many people here. The ruling was
mado on account of the fact that It
has been brought to the notice of tbl
department that In many cases plugs
used for boiler tubes are not of th
material required by law and with tha
View to making users of (be plugs Uvt
up to the letter of the law the new
ruling Is being widely distributed. It

Inspectors of steamboats, and
It has recently come to the attention
of the Department thnt the prolslons
of section 4438, Revised Statutes, re
quiring fusible plugs In boilers to be
made "of good Danca tin' are being
violated by substituting for that metal
nlloya consisting of but a small portion
of tin combined with lead and other
metals Inferior for the purpose Intend
ed to "good Danca tin."
As the law referred to Is absolute as
to the use "of good Danca tin" In the
fusible plugs of marine boilers, "In tha
flues, crown-sheet, or other parts of tha
boiler most exposed to the heat of the
furnace when tho water falls below
Its prescribed limits," the substitution
of alloys of other metals in such fust
Mo, plugs subjects the makers thereol
to the penalties provided In section
4429, Revised Statutes, as follows:
Every person who constructs a holler
or who delivers any such
boiler for use, knowing it to bo Im

of section 4499, Revised Statutes,
