In the nay of a mile) sensation. Tour
voting men nnd one joung lady, all of

Year so, with an ukulele n violin nnd
a guitar, they sallied forth to serenade
their friends In the neighborhood.
They went to various houses at a late
hour of the night. The three musi
cians brought forth harmonious Hawa
iian nlrs while the two remaining
members of the quintet gathered Un the
lucre with which the geneious popula
tion of Walklkl rewarded their musi
cal efforts. Various and exceedingly
humorous were the adventures which
weie met nt the different houses, so
say the serenadcrs. A terrible epi
demic of dangerous Illness must have
been raging In the palmy suburb If
truth was spoken by the people of the
various houses at which a careful
paterfamilias would carefully peep
through the blinds and hid the sere
nadcrs to "go "way back and alt
down" as "there was somebody sick
At other houses, the advent of thn
serenaders would be greeted by a sud
den extinguishing of alt lights and an
w fill stillness Inside.
At oac place whcie a oung couple,
well known to the serenaders, reside
the following dialogue, which followed
Ulinn the sound nf thn flrbt striiliiu nf
music, was heard: "Oh. John, glvo I
them a quarter so they will go away."
John: "Oh, never mind. I haven't
any change." "John If joti don't go I
will." Sounds Issued from the Interior
proclaiming that John had evidently
thought better of It and was coming.
The serenaders were by this time so
convulsed with laughter that John dis
covered their Identity and the musi
cians missed a quarter. I
The serenading came to an abrupt
end, however. It was decided that a
certain crusty old gentleman who re
sides In the park ought to bo entertain
ed and accordingly the musicians went
to his placo and began a very plaintive
Hawaiian air. The old gentleman evi
dently had no music In his soul for ha
suddenly appeared upon the scene with
a revolver and nred two shots, which
sent the serenaders scampering
thiough the llavves. ;
The proceeds of the serenading trip,
which consist of numerous tilckels,
mine dimes and a few quaiters nnd one
half-dollar, will go to swell the fund
