M. Yasconccllos, one of the Incor
rigible young Portuguese of the city,
and known to the police as a full
Hedged tough, made his appearance In
the Pollco Court this forenoon on tho
charge ot drunkenness, his fourth of
fense within a short period ot time.
He wifs fined $0 and costs on pleading
guilty to the charge.
It will bo a. great wonder Indeed If
Yasconccllos Is not I ear rested today on
a much more serious charge than that
of drunkenness. During tho course ot
his travels last evening. Just previous
to his arrest, he called in at the storo
of a Portuguese baker at tho corner of
Klnau and Punchbowl Btrects.
The baker was hard at work pre
paring his dough for the morning bak
ing as VaBconceltos swaggered In. The
latter Immediately became offensive
and before the baker had a chance to
say a word on'tlie bystanders to Inter
fere In any way, the tough made a
Jump forward. " At the same time, he
dealt the baker a quick blow In the face
and the poor fellow fell like a log.
Three young men rushed In. caught
hold of Vnsconecllos and put hltu out
of the plaie. Attention was then given
to the baker who icmalned unconscious
fc- a full halt hour. In the meantime
the patrol wagon was sent for and
Vusconcellos siwnt a night In Jail.
This Portuguese tough Is really a
dangerous fellow for even when sober,
there Is nothing ho so delights In as a
fight of some kind and when he Ih
drunk his natural Instincts still hold
way, only to n more marked degree
Ills attack on the baker last night was
absolutely without pioveatlon and
wholly uncalled for.
