l PECK OF TROUBLE
Trouble Is brewing for Vanconccllos, ,
the Portuguese who was lined $C ntid
costs in tho Police Cottit )eterday
forenoon on tho charge of drunkenness
and who on the previous night went,
into the bakery of another Portuguese '
at tho corner of Punchbowl and Klnnu
streets and assaulted the owner of the
plare. Vasconrcltos Is still In Jail, hn
having found no ono willing to p-iy his
fine for him However, there Is a poi
slblllty that he may bo got out and his
detention under the eyo of the pollco Is
what Is most desired by the victim of
the assault and his attorney
It is therefore very possible 'that
Vasronccllos will be nrrcsled this af
ternoon on the charge of ussault and
battery This, however, will only be
preliminary to the rase of damages
which Attorney Chllllngworth has au
thority to bring In the Second District
Court. If possible the pugnacious Vas-
concellos Is to be made to psy damages
to tho baker who, since the assiult of
Tuesday night has been unable to at
tend to his work and has lost a lot of
money thereby.
The facts In the case arc beginning
to come out and from all appearances
tho young Portuguese now In Jail was
not its drunk as he was" supposed to ba
unci showed sonic method In his mnd
ucss It has been learned Unit the father
of the young man Is also a baker nnd
that he and tho lctlm of the assault
liave been rivals for the trade ot
Punchbowl. Whether there was any
Incentive deduced from this on tho
part of the son is a matter Hint may
come to llsht later on
It has been learned that )oung Vas
rontclloM has been the eause of tho
downfall of a largo number of Portu-,
