Wireless Telegraphy
Decidedly Practical
New York July 13. Tho experi
ments conducted by the United States
Coast and Geodetic Survey at the Mar
coni station nt Sagaponnck, on tha
south shore of Long Island, are ktlll
under way, but bo delicate ale they
and eo lnllnlte the calculations that It
will be tome time before they are trim
plctcd nnd a detailed report is mud
to the Government. The feasibility
of utilizing wireless telegraphy for the
determination of longitude was deni-
onstarted first by Government tests nt
the Marconi station on Nantucket I si
and, under the direction of Dallas U
Walnw right, at which time tho tick
ing of a chronometer whs transmitted
oer a space of fifty miles Since then
the process has been so lmprocd that.
In effect, the chronometer Is "harness
ed" to the transmitter and so bents off
Its own time.
The early results indicated a now
field of usefulness for wireless teleg
raphy In regions like Alaska, whciu
telegraph lines are few and ct whern
numerous longitudes must be deter
mined for the purpose of accurately
charting the vast expanse of coast
line In the Interests of a rapidly In
creasing maritime commerce. Rich
ard Pfund, one of the most skilled ex
perts In America, Is already on his
way to Alaska to superintend the In
stallation of stntlons between Fort Gib
bon and Bates Rnplds for the United
States Signal Corps. It Is expected that
they will be In operation by October I,
A much more extensive ute of the Mur
conl 8 stem In Alaska Is being con
sidered, which will connect the Terri
tory direct with the United States.

the Interior. It is an old structure
and the parishioners do not care to
spend nnd money, as they anticipate,
building a new church. Martin wanted
the Interior to look fresh for tho wed-.
ding, so he set a gang of painters and
decorators at work, and it will be fin
ished In time for the wedding. .Mar
