there was to tho credit of Ewa, in tho
special road tax deposit fund, some
thing like seven thousand dollars. It
wns sold that the County or oanu was
not entitled to this amount, tho money
having been collected beforo tho

ey that has been collected lor me

Act wns pnssed, been turned over to
tho County, but the $17,000 remains
to bo accounted for.
Tho Oahu County Supervisors dis
cussed tho matter of the amount pre
viously collected nnd whether or not

A letter has finally been rccclvod
from Treasurer Campbell, dated New
York, January ,'0, In which full details
arc given of his sale of tbe $7&0,OUU
bonds to Kountzo & Co. The letter,
which, with the exception of tho cable
gram announcing the sale. Is the first
message from Campbell since he de
parted on his mission, reads in part at
follows:
"On arriving here, I found that on
account of the high prlee of money
and tho Unsettled condition of tho
money market generally, that nobody
was very anxious to talk bonds, espec
ially at tbe prices which you and I had
In mind. However, after a good deal
of work, n couple of houses took the
matter under consideration and Messrs
Kountr.o & Co, mado n definite offer
The parties to whom wo formerly sold
our bonds were not interested at an,
nnd were oven doubtful If they would
made a bid It put up at public sale, its
they said tho margin was too small
However, the house to which the bonds
have been sold, Is one of the oldest and
wealthiest In the city.
"Messrs. Dillon & Hubbard have
passed on this sale, although made
privately, on" the grounds that the fig
ure obtained by tho Territory Is a llg
lire In excess of tho figure of tho last
