llnil It not toon for the prompt nld
rendered by tlio Steamer Kauai to the
schooner Ka Mol during tho heavy Rale
Tuesday, the latter would have been
wrecked on the rocks of llninakttn bay
As It was, she lost two anchora ninl on
of her small boats. Sho was being liolil
nt the time of the rescue by one
anchor and a hawser from the schoonc
Kaiikeaoult, wblch was tied to a buoy.
Tho-Ka Mol arrhed about 7 o'clock
this morning from Hamakiia, with 114V
bags of sugar for the barkentine Wil
der, to bo shipped to San Franclsrn,
She has been 22 days making tho trip
and return.
Captain Hlpa commands the Ka Mol,
and In addition to himself has a crew
of nlno men. Sho had put In closn to
the shore In Hamakun bay to recche
her cargo Tuesday morning, when th
storm came on so suddenly that there
was not time to get Into safo water
The captain and eight men went ashore
with such articles of alue that they
most wanted to sac, when It seemed
that certain destruction would come.
The storm was beating the boat In the
direction of tho tfill cliffs that border a
portion of the Hay, and when tho two
anchors wcro lost, It seemed thcro was
but little chance to sao tho vessel. At
tho critical point, howccr, the Kauai
came in lew, and seeing the signals nt
distress took tho Ka Mol In tow to a
safe location.
