sating. Assures economy of fuel, lonjumptlon being 8-10 pound of gasoline
per horsepower per hour.
Individual clutches, the only system reoognlzed as legitimate In mechanical
science. Indestructible Oil film between clutch members permits clutch to
take hold gently, nvoldlng the shocks to machinery characteristic of other
forms of transmission gears. Speed changes made without passing through
Intermediate gears Double cone hl;h gear, with Increased Burfnco. Direct

Eight-lead Hill Precision Oiler, with ilht feed attachment placed on dash.
No calves of any kind, Absolutely forces oil through every feed at compara
tively low pressure; but If, for any roison, oil congeals In the tube, ns Is
possible in cold weather, the pressure Increases to 100 pounds to tho square
Inch and drives the oil to tho bearing. This oiler Is an especially good one,
and means tho proper lubrication of all motor parts, without any readjust
ment, In any temperature. Pressure Is mechanical. No air pressure No
gravity feed, reeds all bearings except transmission bearings and pinion
nhaft bearing. Transmission gears run In oil, and bearings are conBtnntly
bathed In lubricant. I'lnlon shaft bearing at rear axle Is equipped with com
pression grease cup of ample size, suf.1i lent to care for 400 miles' travel. To
tench this greaso cup, left hand-hole coer In tonneau floor. Through eamo
opening, pipe plug In differential housing can be removed. Differential re
quires fresh supply of lubricant only fir each 1,000 miles.
Longltudlnul shaft, with special heavy, hordencd and ground universal coup
lings, enclosed In grease-tight metallic ease, which Is provided with plug
for replenishing greaso. Thus these couplings constantly roolve In lubri
cant. Clears completely protected from dust, water, mud, etc. No noise-
brcedlng chain anywhere. This avol Is Jntk-shaft, unnecessary friction, and
those unsightly sprocket-boxes which make entranco to and exit from ton
neau dangerous, especially for ladles. Ahscnco of sldo chain nlBo permits
handsomer body design than would otherwise bo possible.
AXLE, REAR (FLOATINQ TYPE)
Special axlo steel, having tensile stroigtli of 100.000 to 110,000 pounds to
the squaro Inch. Spur differential. Drop forged gears. Special Tlmken rol
ler bearings. Most accessible axle ever built. Axle, differential gear and
differential bearings can be removed without the use of Jack or pit, car re
maining supported by tho wheels. No load on driving axle.
Exceptionally strong, one-piece I-beam, Manganese bronze. Tensile strength
80,000 pounds to the square Inch. No welds; therefore of uniform strength
throughout, and always of uniform width, permitting teerlng connections to
fit perfectly. -v ... -fr
Constant circulation of water assured by gear-driven centrifugal pump.
Vertical tube radiator. Fan back of radiator and secondary fan cast In fly
wheel. Radiator fan driven by friction clutch, securing proper suction or
air without poaclblllty of accident to fan or adjacent parts.
Particularly effective expansion chamber produces a practically noiseless
exhaust. Muffler "cutout." 0rMJtfi'4AllVurtii i
Permanently attached steel pan, tightly covered with heavy canvas, prevents
motor parts becoming affected by dust or moisture, and acts as a sound
Wlnton Air Governor, covered by basic patents, and consequently 'a ex
clusively on Wlnton cars, gives motor an Innumerable variety of speeds, all
of which are at the command of the driver, without shifting gears or moving
levers. Operated for constnnt or vatlablo speed by cither foot button o
lever on steering column.
Screw and nut design. Yoke and block Joints. No ball and socket Joints.
I.emolne t pe forward steer front axis. Oil hole plug on steering gear case.
Spark and throttle levers above steering wheel,
Three. Two hand brakes on driving wheel hubs. Single band brake on
drive shaft. Urnko surfaces Increased 25 per cent over previous models,
Insuring greatest possible factor of safety.
Direct and Immediate access to all working parts of motor and transmission.
Hand hole covers (8x5 Inches) on crnnk enso and transmission gear ensa
removed by turning hand wheel. Left half of crank case easily detached .to
permit quick and tnsy removal of crank shnft, pistons and connecting rods.
Upper half of transmission gear caso likewise detachable, affording easy re
moval of all transmission gears and fliafts,
One pedal and two levers control all transmission cinches and brakes. Wln
ton 'operation Is the simplest In the world. Learned In half an hour.
All cylinders, pistons, piston rings, crank shafts, valves, universal coup
lings, and transmission shafts are ground to tho accuracy of 1-10,000 of an
Inch. This means perfect fitting machinery, absenco of destructive friction,
the use and not thj waste of power, lengthened ltfo of the working parts, and
tntercnangeaoiiity or parts. ,
On the subject of cylinder grinding, that well known automobllo author
ity, the Horseless Age, Bays:
"In automobllo engines tho cylinder walls are necessarily thin, and
when tho surface Is finished by boring or reaming, thcro Is a continual ten
dency of the Iron to spring away from the cutting tool. If there aro hard
and soft spots In the Iron, It Is almost Impossible to have tho boring tools
cut a perfectly round hole, as the Iron in this thin shell will spring away
from the tool and come back again after the tool has passed on.
"With grinding, however, this Is not the case, because thcro Is not tho
pressure against the walls of the cylinder with the grinding wheel that there
Is with a boring tooL" faom tnjL ., ,,.
All materials In which Btrength Is required such as stock for frames, crank
shafts, connecting rods, axles, etc. aro exhaustively tested on our automat
ic and autographic 200,000 pounds nioalo Testing Machine, before accepted
for use In Wlnton manufacture. That test shows how many pounds pres
sure or pull to the square Inches the metal withstands before It cracks or
breaks. Consequently, we know that tho material wo uso Is absolutely safe,
that It has marvelously greater strength than Is required. We don't guess.
This test assures that Wlnton buyers get the strongest automobllo made.
After proving our metals to bo tho best, wo" carry out every precaution
to put Wlnton cars together right. Experienced Inspectors scrutlnlzo all
work, No Blip-shod carelessness Is permitted. Safety Is the keynote. For
Instance; every nut In every Wlnton car is securely held In place by a cot
ter pin. That same carefulness, exercised throughout our factory, makes tho
Wlnton accident-proof, bo far as critically careful manufacture can make it
bide members of one-piece, channel-section pressed steel, reinforced. Motor
and transmission carried on drop frames. No sub frame,
Distinctively new and particularly artistic and practical design side-entrance
body. Dust-proof tonneau. Tonneau foot-rest (patent applied for). Scats
six, First quality, deep, spring upholstery.
Wo do not manufacture tires, but always endeavor to furnish on Wlnton
caw the best tires that can be purchased. Our regular equipment fits the
standard clincher rim.
Main gasoline tank, 17 gallons, placed at rear of frame under tonneau. Aux
iliary gasoline tank on dash. OH tank under front floor board at left Bide of
frame. No water tank. Water can led only in radiator and circulating sys
tem. Main gasoline-tank has locked cover.
