WEEKLY WEATHER BULLETIN
HONOLULU, T. H., Dec. 31, 1906.
The total rainfall (or the week ranged from 3.71 to 9.30 inchei In the
Puna, Hllo, Kohala, and Hamakua districts of Hawaii, In all districts of
Maul, except the Kula, In the northern portion of the Koolaupoko dis
trict of Oahu, In the Puna and eastern portion of the Kona district of
Kauai, and on Molokal. In the remaining sections the amounts were
generally less than 1.00 Inch.
At stations having a record of ten or more years, the amount for the
week was In excess of the average from 1.65 to 6.39 inches In the Ko
hala, Hamakua, and Hllo districts of Hawaii. At all stations on Oahu,
In the Kau district of Hawaii, and In the western portion of the Kona
district of Kaual the amounts were less than the average, but In no
Instance did the deficiency equal 1.00 Inch.
The total rainfall for the week was greatly In excess of the preceding
week's, -11.75 to 46.67 Inches, on Hawaii, except In the Kau and Kona
districts, and In all districts of Maul, except the Kula. It was less than
last week's In the Kau, and northern portion of the Kona districts of
Hawaii, on Molokal, and In all districts of Oahu, excepting the Wala
nae; the greatest deficiency being 1.00 Inch.
Very heavy rains were general on the 22nd and 23rd in the Kohala,
Hamakua, Hllo and Puna, and on the 26th In the Hllo districts of Ha
waii, and on the 21st and 22nd on Maul, except In the Kula district.
Thunderstorms occurred In the Hamakua and Hllo districts of Ha
waii, and in the Koolau and Hamakuapoko districts of Maul, attended
with hall In the last named district.
Floods are reported from the Koolau and Walluku districts of Maui,
with streams running higher than ever before known; and considerable
damage done to roads, irrigation ditches, and pipe lines.
Much snow Is reported on the tops and far down the sides of Mauna
Kea and Mauna Loa mountains on Hawaii; and snow occurred on
Haleakala Mountain on Maul on the 21th. ,,
The mean temperature for the week were generally 3.0 to 5.8" lower
than during the preceding week.
High winds and gales were reported from many stations during the
Conditions on Oahu on the 29th Indicated the approach of a very

At the local office of the U. 8. Weather Bureau in Honolulu, the
maximum temperature was 78 minimum 63, and mean 70.6, 1.3 low-
er than the normal for the week, and 25 below last week's. The aver
age cloudiness was 610ths; mean relative humidity 72.0, and the pre
vailing wind direction was NE, with an average hourly velocity of 12.1
miles. The total rainfall was .60 Inch, .17 below the normal, and .62
less than during the preceding week.
