HONOLULU, March 23, 1908.
Rains occurred generally over the section from the 14th to the 17th,
Inclusive, and were at times excessively heavy tn amount generally
over Oahu and Kauai and In the Hamakua district of Hawaii. The fol
lowing are the amounts. In Inches, occurring In 24 consecutive hours:
14th Hauula, Oahu, 2.80; 15th Oahu Kahuku 3.65, Hauula 5.25, Wal
manalo 8.52, Manoa 3.21, Honolulu (U. S. W. B.) 3.43, Ewa 5.54, and
Walanae 2.57; Kauai Llhue 3.70, Koloa 3.75 and Makaweli 3.21;
16th Hawaii Honokaa 4.02, and Paauhau 4.53; Oahu Maunawlll
Ranch 8.75, and Walanae 3.57, and 17th, Kllauea, Kauai 2.56.
The total rainfall was above the average for the week at all stations
on Oahu and Kauai and In the Hamakua and Kau districts of Hawaii
having a record of ten or more years, and below the average at all
such stations in the remaining districts of Hawaii. The excesses, In
Inches, In the several districts were: Oahu Koolauloa and Walanae
6.27 to 6.84, Koolaupoko 9.28 to 9.69, and Honolulu and Ewa 4.79 to 5,21;
Kauai Koolau 3.85, and Kona 3.35 to 4.95, and Hawaii Hamakua 132
to 2.73, and Kau 0.C8. The deficiencies on Hawaii ranged from 0.40 to
0.80 In the Kona and Kohala, 1.58 to 3.26 In the Hllo, and 1.79 In the
The greatest amounts of rainfall during the week occurred in the
Koolaupoko district of Oahu, and ranged from 10.64 to 11,14 Inches. In
the remaining districts of Oahu the amounts, In inches, were from' 5.09
to 7.25. On Kauai they were 5.66 to 6.00 In the Puna and Koolau, and
4.32 to 6.53 In the Kona; on Molokal 2.52 to 4.70; on Maul 1.11 to.3.55
In the Koolau, 2.70 to 2.77 in the Hamakualoa and Hamakuapoko, and
1.23 to 2.51 In the Kula and Walluku, and on Hawaii, 4.24 to 5.04 In the
Hamakua, 0.81 to 2.83 In the Hllo and Puna, and 0.72 to 1.93 In the re
The rainfall was more than that of the preceding week 3.91 to 10.25
Inches on Oahu, 2.07 to 4.63 on Kauai, 2.18 to 4.70 on Molokal, 0.63 to
2.76 on Maul, and 2.76 to 3.37 In the Hamakua district of Hawaii, and
generally slightly more in the remaining districts of Hawaii.
The mean temperatures were appreciably higher than those of the
preceding week generally on Hawaii and Maul, and stationary or
slightly lower on the other Islands.

rainfall for the principal Islands and for the Group:

At the local office of the U. S. Weather Bureau In Honolulu ex.

op the 16th, the total for the week belnu 5.35 Inches, 4.79 above the
normal and 4.26 iTjore than during the preceding week. The maximum
temperature was 82, minimum 64, and mean 72.8, 1.2" higher than
the normal and .2' higher than last week's. The mean relative humid
ity was 75.07. Southerly winds prevailed on the 15th and -16th; NE.
on the 17th, 18th and 19th, and E. on the 20th and 21st, with an aver
age hourly velocity of 6.1. The barometer was slightly below normal
on the 1Dth and 16th and above on tho remaining dates, and for the
