one of tho best-known Japanese mcrcihiints of Honolulu. In 1SSC ho
crfmc hero ns n contract laborer, having been ono of tho fifty contract la
borers consigned to the Wilder Steamship Co., Ltd. He worked for tho
steamship company n's n seaman for bomo time, lifter which he started a
storo on llcretanla street. During that time Mr. KoJImn furnished the
Kwa plantation, through Castle & Cooke, Its ngents, with all the Japan
ese groceries nnd general merchandise. Tho managements. of the llwn
and Knhuku sugar plantations, having confidence In Mr. KoJImn, placed
large orders for Japanese goods In his hands. With proper business In
stinct, Mr. KoJImn made the most of his opportunities nnd saw that those
orders were promptly filled. Ills business had grown .so Immensely by
that time that ho soon moved down to Hotel street, where he conduct
ed a large merchandise and liquor store. About threo years ago, Mr. Ko
JImn transferred his business to Mr. Ynmnmoto. Ilrnnchlng out from
that locality, Mr. KoJImn opened a liquor storo on King street, maiikn of
the City Mnrket, where ho Is conducting a successful trade.
Mr. KoJImn was born In tho Prefecture of Kunagawa, Japan, and Is
the auditor of the Jnpancso Merchants' Association, having held the po
sition for five years.
