TO HAVE HOME
Preliminary plans have been
drawn for a $12,000 home for tho
white lepers at the Moloknl Settle
ment, nnd from present indications,
tho project, which has been fathered
by Superintendent Jack McVeigh for
some time past, will probably go
through. James F. Morgan has prom
Ised to render nil the nBslstanco in
his power In the matter of raising
the necessary funds for the home.
As conditions now nrc there, tho
whlto leper receives tho equivalent in
groceries of the pol allowance, and
this has not proven satisfactory. Tho
Hawailans aro well satisfied with
this, as pol Is their staplo food, but
to tho haolo who docs not caro for
the natural food of these Islands,
matters are In n very unsatisfactory
way. Tho commuting valuo of ono
palal per week amounts to only about
63 cents, with which groceries of all
kinds much bo purchased.
Ily vlrtuo of a donntlon from pub
lic-spirited people for whlto lepers
who aro without means, some ot
them received JG per month extra
intlon nllownnco. It is the Idea ot
Superintendent McVeigh that if a
homo can bo established for all tho
whlto lepors, to pool tho total allow
ance for food for tho men, thus form
ing n common mess at which desir
able wholesome, nnd suitable, rations
could bo dolod out.
The mnttcr was brought up nt tho
meeting ot the Hoard ot Hcnlth yes
terday afternoon nnd recolvcd tho
unqualified approval ut that body.
Tho matter of raising sufficient fund
to carry out the project is now tho

Thcro are nt present thirteen babies
to be removed to this nursery, ac
cording to Superintendent McVeigh,
nnd these will bo moved at once.
