' The mean temperatures were lower than those of the preceding
week at practically every station In the section. On Hawaii, Maul gen
erally, windward Oahu, and In southern Molokal the differences were
marked, and ranged from about 1.2 to 3.0.
Heavy to excessive rains were of frequent occurrence on windward
Hawaii from the 28th to the 1st, Inclusive, and heavy rains In the
Hamakualoa and Koolau districts of Maul on the 28th. The following
excessive rainfalls, In Inches, were reported: 29th Hawaii Kukul
haele 3.08, Honokaa 3.63; 30th Hawaii Ookala 4.10, Laupahoehoe 2.90,
and Ponahawal 2.95.
There was more rainfall than during the preceding week at all sta
tions on Hawaii, and Maul, and In the Koolauloa, the northern and cen
tral portions of the Koolaupoko, and the western portion of the Ewa
districts of Oahu. In the windward wlatrlcts of Hawaii the excesses
were considerable, ranging In the Hllo district where they were great
est from 3.49 to 8.64 Inches, Where there was less rainfall than dur
ing last week the changes did not exceed .32 Inch, excepting In central
Molokal, where It was 1.08 inches.
The rainfall was above the average of ten or more years at all sta
tions In the Kohala, Hamakua and Hllo districts of Hawaii, and the
Koolau district of Maul, and below the average elsewhere In the sec
tion, The excesses, In Inches, In the several districts were: Hawaii
Kohala 2.08 to 2.36, Hamakua 4.49, and Hllo 2.28 to 7.40; and In the
Koolau district of Maul 1.34. The deficiencies, at a rule, were small
and were! Hawaii Puna 0.62, Kau 0.94 to MS, and Kona 0.25; Maul
Walluku 0.09; Oahu 0.23 to 0.75; and Walmea, Kauai 0.61.
The greatest amounts of rainfall were reported from the Hllo district
of Hawaii, and ranged from 4.98 to 10.10 Inches. The amounts, In
Inches, In the remaining districts of the section were: Hawaii Ko
hala 2.79 to 3.49, Hamakua 4.40 to 6.46, Puna 1.21 to 4.58, Kau 0.10 to
1.08, and Kona 0.63 to 3.03; Maul Hamakualoa and Koolau 2.92 to 3.36,
Hana 1.40, Kula 0.68, Walluku 0.20 to 1.14, and Lahatna 055; Oahu
Koolauloa 0.20, Koolaupoko 0.47 to 1.63, Honolulu 0.51 to 1.68, Ewa 0.62
to 1.41, and Walanae 0.00; Kauai 0.00 In the Walmea and 0.21 In the
Puna sections; and Molokal 0.50 on the southeastern coast and 0.02 In
the west-central part. ,
Very high trade winds were prevalent over the aectlen gentrally en
the 28th and 29th, and over portions on the 30th; and very rough seat
were reported from the windward coasts.
The following tablt shows the weekly averages of, temperature and
rainfall for the principal Islands and for the Group:

At the local office of the U. 8. Weather Bureau In Honolulu partly
cloudy weather generally prevailed, with measurable rainfall on two
dates amounting to .51 Inch, .39 below the weekly normal, and .03 less
than during the preceding week. The maximum temperature was 79,
minimum 65, and mean 73.6', 0.2 higher than the normal, and 0.2
lower than last week's. Northeasterly winds prevailed on each day
of the week, with the high average hourly velocity of 10.4 miles. The
wind attained a maximum velocity of 30 miles from the NE. on the 30th
the highest velocity since Aug. 1st. The mean dally relative humid
ity varied from 60 to 72 . with a weekly mean of 67.9. The'mean
dally barometer ranged from 29.96 to 30.02 Inches, and the mean for
the week, 29.99, was 0X12 Inch above the normal.

Kohala Mission (4) Thu mean temperaturo was 69.0. Rain oc
curred on tho first six dates and totaled 3.49 inches, 2.37 more than

Nlulli (3) Rain fell dally and amounted to 3.21 Inches, 2.08 above
thu average, nnd 2.61 more than last week's. The mean temieraturc

Kukulhaele (3) Kuln fell on five dates, amounting to 4.40 Inches,

Laupahoehoe (3) Stormy weather prevailed, with extremely rough
teas, and rainfall on tho first six dates totaling 8.99 Inches. 6.85 above

Honohlna (3) Rain fell dally and totaled 6.29 inches. 5.33 moro than

Hakalau (3) The mean temperaturo was 71.1. nalns occurred
dally and amounted to C.15 Inches, 3.41 moro than tho weekly average.
Pepeekeo (3) Rain fell dally and totaled 4.98 Inches, 2.28 above tho
average, and 3.49 moro than last week's. The mean temperature wan
