' GENERAL SUMMARY.
A "Kona" (Southerly) storm set In on the night of tho 8 9th, which,
altho attended with moderate winds and but little rainfall up to the end
of the week, gave every Indication of Increasing In Intensity.
Lower mean temperatures than during the preceding week obtained
on Kauai, and Molokal, and In the Kau and Kona districts of Hawaii
the most marked deficiencies being reported from Kauai and portions
of the Kau district of Hawaii, whera they ranged from 2.0 to 2 8-.
Generally elsewhere the mean temperatures were higher than last
week's, but as a rule the excesses were small.
Th rainfall was light tltruout thc section, and all but one station
having a record of ten or more years report less than the average for
the week. The deficiencies' In Inches, In the several districts wore:
Hawaii Kohala 0.31 to 0.63, Hamakua O.Z7, Hllo 0'.63 to' 1.81. excepting
-10.08 at Laupaljoehoe; Puna 1.33, and Kau and Kona 0.73 to 6.79; Maul
Hamakualoa 1.20, WallukU 0.46,-and Lahalna 0.97; Oahu Kdolaupdko
1.11, and Ewa, Walanae and Honolulu 0.47 to 0.71; and'Kaual Koolau
0.87, and Waimea 0.58.
The greatest amounts of rainfall were reported from the northern
portion of the Hllo district of Hawaii and ranged from 2.05 to ?AS
Inches. There were four other stations reporting amounts from 1.12
to 1.45 inches, and the remaining stations less than 1.00 Inch. No rain
fall was reported from the Hamakualoa, Hamakuapoko, Kula, Walluku
and Lahalna districts of Maul, and the Walanae and the lower levels of
the'Honolulu districts of Oahu; and but a trace from the Waimea dis
trict of Kauai.
There was less rainfall than during the preceding week at all stations
on Maul, Oahu, Kauai, and Molokal, and I ft the Kohala, Hamakua, Puna
and at all but one station In the Hllo districts of Hawaii. The greatest
deficiencies, In Inches, were 4.09 in Hie Koolau, 2.33 In the Hamakualoa
and 1.25 In the Hana districts of Maul;. 1.37 In the Puna, 1.73 in the
Hamakua and 1.90 to 2.G5 In the Hllo districts of Hawaii, elsewhere the
deficiencies were less than 1.00 Inch,
The following earthquake shocks wero reported all about 12130
p. m. of the 4th: Hawaii Kohala Mill, sharp; Kealakekua (Wal
lace), slight; Ookala; Kohala Mission, ellght, and Kukulhaclc, severe;
and Cth, Kohala Mill, 3 p. in., slight.
At the local office of the U. 3. Weather Bureau In Honolulu clear to
partly cloudy weather obtained, with .01 Inch of rainfall on the 9th, .71
below the weekly, normal, and .01 lets than during the preceding week.
The maximum temperature was 77", minimum G1", apd mean 09 0", 2.0"
below the normal, and 0.6 lower than last' week's. The mean daily
relative humidity ranged from 61 to 82 ., and the mean for the week
was C7.0 , Northeasterly winds prevailed on tho first six days and
southeasterly on the last day. The average hourly velocity was 7.7
miles. The mean dally barometer ranged from 30.02 to 29.3G inches,
and the mean for tho week, 29.97 Inches, wac normal. The week closed
very threatening and a Kona indicated. I
