HONOLULU, April S, 1909.
Mean temperature! slightly higher than during the preceding week
were reported from the Kohala, Hamakua and southern portion of the
Hllo district! of Hawaii, the Kula, Koolau and Hamakualoa districts of
Maul, the Koolaupoko district of Oahu, and the Walmea district of
Kauai; elsewhere lower mean temperatures were reported.
Light rainfalls were reported from Hawaii, and Maul, and all stations
on those Islands having a record of ten or more years report less rain,
fall than the average. The deficiencies, In inches, in the several dis
tricts were: Hawaii Kohala 0.57 to 0.79, Hamakua 1.11 to 1.13, Hllo
1.05 to 3.87, Puna 1.78, Kau 1.23 and 1.24, and Kona 0.10; and Maul
Hamakualoa 0.23, and Wailuku 0.03. On Oahu and Kauai there was
more rainfall than the average, excepting on the lower levels of the
Ewa district of Oahu where there was a slight deficiency. The excesses
In the several districts were: Oahu Koolaupoko 2.26 to 2.46, Honolulu
0.14 to 3.36, and Walanae 0.26; and Kauai Walmea 0.56.
On the windward side and the uplands of the leeward side of Oahu
excessively heavy rains fell on the 2d, and the greatest amounts of rain
fall for the week were reported from thoie districts. The total amounts
of rainfall in Inches, for the week were: Hawaii Kohala 0.64 to 0.81,
Hamakua 0.67 to 1.25, Hllo 0.87 to 2.64, Puna 0.55 to 2.33, Kau 0.00, and
Kona 0.58 to 0.83; Maui Koolau 1.79 to 2.43, Hamakualoa 1.R5, Hana
0.70, Kula 0.00, and Wailuku 0.00 to 0.18; Oahu Koolauloa 1.05, Koo
laupoko 3.51 to 4.31, Honolulu 0.82 to 5.43, Ewa 0.16 to 6.18, and Wala
nae 0.69; Kauai Puna 0.85 to 1.75, and Walmea 1.39 to 1.80; and Mo
lokal, 0.95 to 2.86.
There was less rainfall than during last week In the Koolau, Hama
kualoa and portions of the Wailuku districts of Maul, and In all districts
of Hawaii, excepting In a portion of the Kona distcjct; elsewhere there
was more rainfall than during the preceding week. In the Hllo district
of Hawaii the deficiencies were material ranging from 2.60 to 6.05
Inches. In the Koolaupoko district and at the higher levels of the Hono
lulu district of Oahu, in the Walmea district of Kauai, and along the
southern coast of Molokal the excesses In rainfall over the previous
week were marked on Oahu ranging from 3.25 to 3.83 inches, and 1.21
to 1.85 Inches on Kauai, and Molokai.
The following table shows the weekly averages of temperature and
rainfall for the principal Islands and for the Group:

At the local office of the U. S. Weather Bureau In Honolulu showers
occurred dally and totaled .82 Inch, .14 above the normal for the week,
and .19 more than last week's. The maximum temperature was 77',
minimum 62, and mean 69.5 , 1.8' below the normal, and 0.1 lower
than the preceding week's. The mean dally relative humidity varied
from 78 to 65 and the mean for the week was 73.7 . Northeasterly
winds prevailed, with an average hourly velocity of 8.4 miles. The mean
dally barometer ranged from 30.04 to 30.14 Inches, and the mean for the
week, 30.07, was 0.05 Inch above normal.
