nny building of nny description In which plumbing fixtures nro to

sible, with a cesspool, construction to tho approval of tho Plumbing
inspector. All buildings In which the plumbing has been dono, prior
to the passage of this Ordinance, must conform to this Ordlnnnco
before being connected to tho sower,
Section 9. The term "houso Fewer" is herein used to designate
Hint part of tho drain between the Bower or cesspool and to within

Section 13. All Fixtures shnll be bo separately and independently
trapped nn near Hie opening thereof as Is practical.
All traps shall have' n wnter seal of not less than 114 Inches In
dor-til and shall be set true to wnter seal. Tho size or every trap
shall bo the same ns the waste pipe- It serves. Kltchon sinks shnll
be provided with nn approved grcaso trap when connected to tho pub
lic sower. No grease trap shall In any case bo placed under a build
ing or structure. The cnpiclty or grease traps shall be as follows:
For residences, not less than threo (3) gallons;
For restaurants, hotels, tenement and boarding houses not loss than
Provided, however, that grease traps In. nil restaurants, hotels, ten
ement and boarding houses shall bo constrncted subject to tho approval
of thi Plumbing Inspector. No bell traps shall be used In any caso.
Antlsyphon traps shall only be used whero tho Plumbing Inspector

Section 14. In every building or structuro whero there Is a water
closet, thero shall bo at least ono four (4) Inch cast Iron vent pipe,
running from tho houso drain unobstructed and undiminished In slzo
to a point not less than ono (1) foot above tho roof of tho building
or Btructtne or tire-wall, or If such building or' structure has it fire
wall within ten (to) feet of said vent, then not less Hum one (1) .foot
above said tire-wall. The terminal of nil cnts shall be nt lenst ten
(IP) feet from nny window or opening.
All traps within nny building or within flvo feet or any building
shall be vented by special air pipes of lead or Iron, but In no case
shall n vent pipe end In chimney or carthenwaro Que. No lead pipe
shnll be Hied lor nny ent except as a branch to connect with an Iron
pipe nud then only for a distance not to qxecod two feet. Vent pipes
may converge Into ono plpo nt any point npt less than threo (3) feet
six (U) Inches above tho floor lino of tho building or structure. All
lent pipes shall be extended nbove the roof of the building or structuro

ed. Nn water closet or urlnnl shall be placed or maintained In any
loom In which there Is not a window opening direct to the external
atmosphere, Stop cocks shall bo plnced on all supply plios to water
closet tanka not less than 111 inches above the floor,

Section 20. No sinks or wash trays of wood'shall bo constructed
or used except, In hotel or restaurant kitchens or buildings used for
Industrial purposes mid, provided that when constructed or used In
hotel or rostuurint kitchens or buildings used for Industrial purposes
sinks and wash trays may be built of 2" sugar plno and as directed

INSPECTION OF PLUMB1NO.'
'Section 25. All house newer, houe drain, soil, waste and vent
pipes, Inside nnd outsldo of buildings,, before being covered, shall have
all openings stopped nnd tilled with water to tho top of the highest
vfit pipe and the entire svstcm muit bo water tlghL This test shall
be made In the presence of the Plumbing Inspector, No house sewer,
libuso drain, soil waste or'Vtnt pipe shall be covorcd or concealcd-ln
any waj until arter It has bjen examined and approved by the Plumb
Iiir Inspector. Such examination, nnd approval shall bo made Imme-i
dlately upon Information and notification being received by the Plumb
lug, Inspector. After all fixtures are connected and traps filled with
wnter thero shall be a,flnil Inspection made by the Plumbing Inspector.
In no enso shall tho Plumbing Inspector accept or approve any Job
of plumbing work until the same has bctn mado perfectly tight and
tij conform with this Ordinance.
ISSUANCE OF BLANKS. '
, Section 2G. Tho Plumbing Inspector shall Issue to nny person,
persons, firm or.corporntton'all necessary plumbing blanks.
v FILINO OF 1'IANS AND ISSUANCE OF PERMITS.
Section 27. After plans have been prorerly filed and approved by
H.o Plumbing Inspector, he shnll Issue the required permit to the
person, persons, flrntor corporation applying therefor.
Section 28. Tho Plumbing Inspector shall collect all fees provided
for by this Ordinance except-'llccnso fees, and shall on the last day
of each month deioslt. sold fees with the Treasurer of tho City and
County of Honolulu. i
Section 29. It shall be tho duty of tho Plumbing Jnspector to In
spect all plumbing work done in the City and County of Honolulu and
II after proper final Inspection of nny Job of plumbing work the same
Is found to be properly dono and to be peifectty tight as required
by this Ordinance he shall Issue to the proper person, , persons, firm
"ir corporation a certificate setting forth tho fact that tho work has
been Inspected nnd tho same found to have been done according to
the requirements of this Ordinance. Tho Plumbing Inspector Bhall ,
huvo tho right and 'authority, to enter nny building or go upon any
premises whero plumbing work Is being donoat all rcasonnblo hours,
to ascertain If tho provisions or Ihls Ordinance have been or ale being
compiled with. a
'Tho Plumbing Inspector 'shall keep a complete record of ufl regis
tiutlons nnd Inspections made and nlso all permits granted by him
ns Plumbing Inspector, nnd mnke u report of tho same each month

Section 30. Any, perton, persons, firm or corporation violating any
or tho ptovlslons or this Ordinance, shell bu deemed guilty or a mis
demeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be lined In uny sum not
exceeding Five Hundred ($500.00) Dollars or be Impiltoned In tho
"lonolulu Jail tor a period not exceeding six months.
Section' 31. This Otdlnanco shall be In forco and take effect from '

will be the successor of C. II, Klue
gel as the engineor in chnrge of tho
Kula pipe line on Maul, now build
ing. Mr. Kluegol accepted n po
sition on the Hllo Railway Co. and
Mr. Harvey, who Is now dolus: hviim-
grnplilc work on tho Kupaa lands on
Maul, has been In the employ of the
Survey Depnrtment for some time.
