The greatest amounts of rainfall were reported from the Kona dis
tricts of Hawaii. No rainfall was reported from several stations In the
leeward districts of Maul and Oahu, and from the western portion of
the N. Kohala and northern portion of the Kau districts of Hawaii,
The total amounts cf rainfall for the week, In Inches, In the several
districts were: HAWAII N. Kohala 0.00 to 0.30, Hxmakua 0.03 to
0.34, N. HIIo 0.67 to 1.03, 8. HIIo 1.57 to 1.98, Puna 0X8, Kau O.OO to
0.07, 8. Kona 2.S5, and N. Kona 3.28 MAUI Makawao 0.38 to 1.62,
Hana 0.58 to 1.21, and Walluku 0.00; OAHU Koolauloa 0.11, Koolau
poko 0.06 to 0.14, Honolulu 0.14, and Ewa 0.00; and KAUAI Koloa,
Hanalel and Kawaihau 0.54 to 0.56, and Llhue 0.35.
The following are the departures from the average, In Inches, In the
several districts: HAWAII N. Kohala 0.80 to 0.95, Hamakua
1.09 to 1.25, N. HIIo 1.63 to 2.51, 8. HIIo 1.04 to 2.41, Puna
0.79, Kau 0.85 to 0.87, and N. Kona 1.46; MAUI Makawao
1.01; OAHU Koolauloa 0.44, Koolaupoko 0.32 to 1.26, Hono
lulu 0.21, and Ewa 0.13; and KAUAI Hanalel 0.61.
There was more rain than during the preceding week In the Kawai
hau, Llhue and Koloa districts of Kauai, the Honolulu district of Oahu,
the Makawao and the northeastern portion ef the Hana districts of
Maul, and generally on Hawaii. Excepting In the Kona districts of
Hawaii the Increases over last week were slight less than 0.50 Inch
the greatest being 0.87 Inch. In the Konaa the excesses ranged from
2.38 to 3.13 Inches. At no station was the deficiency, as compared with
the previous week, equal' to 1.00 Inch.
The changea In mean temperature, as compared with last week, were
slight; and were slightly higher generally on Hawaii, Kauai, and Maui;
and slightly lower on Oahu,
Earthquake shocks were felt at Kohala Mission, Hawaii, at 4.30 a. m.
of the 12th, and Kukulhaele, Hawaii, during the night of the 11th.
The following table shows the weekly averages of temperature and
rainfall for the principal islands and for the Group:
Entire Group 74.5 0.68 Inch.
At the local office of the U. 8, Weather Bureau In Honolulu, clear to
partly cloudy, showery weather obtained, with measurable rainfall on
three dates amounting to 0.14 Inch, 0.21 less than the normal for the
week, and 0.07 more than during the preceding week. The maximum
temperature was 82', minimum 71", and mean 76.3, 2.3 below the
normal, and 0.7 lower than last week's. The mean dally relative
humidity varied from 62 to 73, and for the week was 67.4. East
erly winds prevailed on four dates and northeasterly on the remainder,
with an average hourly velocity of 9.1 mites. The mean dally
barometer ranged from 30.00 to 30.08 inches, and the mean for thai
week, 30.04, was 0.06 inch above normal.
