HAWAII SHOOTS
EXCELLENTLY
N.G.H. Are Twenty-Fourth
In National Match At
Perry
Hawaii was well represented at
tho rifle shoot at Camp Perry, and
managed to get Into twenty-fourth
place with a scoro ot 3520. This Is
only 2S1 points behind the winners
the Navy made 3801.
Colonel Jones' statement to a
II u 1 1 e 1 1 n man, beforo leaving for
the coast, that he considered the
present team the strongest that ever
left Hawaii Is borne out by tho re
sult of tho shoot.
Last year our team finished In the
twenty-sixth place, making a total
of 2714, or 80C less than this year's
team. In 1907 Hawaii was a long
way down tho list and "Only put up
a score of 2C88.
And when It Is remembered that
some of our very best shots could
not make tho trip this year, wo may
feel assured that Hawaii Is well up
In rifle shooting ns compared with
the rest of the owrld.
This year the N. a. II. Is num
bered In the first division for tho
first time since the team has com
peted in the annual shoot. LaBt
year they headed tho second divis
ion, and It Is very evident that our
me nare getting better all the tlmo.
When a team that runs twenty
fourth In n competition Is only 281
points behind tho winners. It seems
that the whole ot the leading teams
must be very close to one nnothor.
Tho cable received by the acting
Adjutant General from Colonel Jonos
Is as follows:
"Navy first place, aggregate scoro
3801; Hawaii uggregato score 3520;
twenty-fourth place,"
BRUTAL TREATMENT.
