Last night's banquet of Consul Gen
eral Ujeno, In honor of tho Mikado's
birthday, was a grand success. It
was git on under n large tent at tho
roar of tho Consul's official residence,
where about four hundred people, in
eluding ladles and gentlemen, weio
fed. Tho entire grounds weio brll
liantly Illuminated with electric lights

ness of tho general decorations.

treo, which waB also decorated with
colored lights and artificial chorry
flowers.
Shortly after 8 o'clock, malo guests
wero told to bo seated. Tho ladles
who had been waiting In tho reception
rooms of the Consul's residence, next
woro escorted to their BeatB by Con
sul General U)cno, who paid special
attention to their comfort. This dono,

under tho leadership of Mr. Dot,

After congratulatory remarks In
honor of tho Imperial Majesty, the
Consul proposed tho health of the
