ORDINANCE NO. 12.
AN ORDINANCE REGULATING THE CARRYING OF PASSENGERS FOR
HIRE IN LICENSED VEHICLES. PROVIDING THE RATES OF FARE
. FOR THE CARRYING OF PASSENGERS IN SUCH VEHICLES AND
PROVIDING FOR PUNISHMENT FOR VIOLATIONS OF THE PRO
VISIONS OF THE ORDINANCE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY AND COUNTY OF
HONOLULU:
Section 1. Hvery licensed carriage or vehicle, except as otherwise
provided in this Ordinance, used for the earning of passengers for hire In
the City and County of Honolulu shall ho numbered, and such numbor shall
bo placed In n conspicuous place on both hides of such, carriage or vehicle.
Such numbers shall be In llgurOR not Ices than one and one-half (1H ) Inches
In height. All motor clilck'3 shall be numbered as provided In Ordinance
No. 11 of tho City and County of Honolulu. It Bhall bo unlawful for any
person to rnrry passengers for hire In the City nnd County of Honolulu,
unless licenced so to do ns by law required.
Section 2. Every licensed carrl.ige or vehlclo for carrying passen
gers running at night, except motor chicles, shall exhibit two lights, ono
on each side near the driver's seat, with tho number of such vehicle plainly
shown on the" glass of each luutcrn In black figures not loss than one and
1 one-half (114) Inches In height. All motor vehicles running at ulght shall
exhibit lights as provided by Ordinance No. 11 of tho City and County of
Honolulu.
Section 3 L'very licensed chicle nnd every horso nnd harness used
In ronnoetlon therewith shall, when In sen Ice bo In n suitable nnd safe
condition. No animal harncmed to any licensed vehlclo shall be loft on
any stnnd or public highway, within tho City and County of Honolulu
without n proper attendunt or without being properly secured.
Section 4. Hvery licensed driver for hlro shnll have a silver or
whlta metnl badge, with his number plnlnly designated upon such badge.
Mill badge to bo worn upon tho left breast of tho driver so as to bo dis
tinctly seen.
Section 5. It shnll bo the duty of every owner and driver of n li
censed passenger vehicle to keep ut all times a copy of this Ordinance and
rntcs of fare In a leather packet firmly attached to tho center of the back
of tho fiont so.it of such licensed passenger vehlilc, with the words "Hates
of I-'ure" Impressed on the front of said lcatticr pocket In letters not less
than ouc-hair (1 Inch In fclzc. Every such driver shall, In addition
thereto. Keep on his person at least one copy of this Ordlnanco and rates
at fare.
Section C. It shall be unlawful for nny licensed driver for hire, when
In charge of n licensed carrlago or vehicle, to bo Intoxicated, or to use In
putting or nbuslvo language, or to demand more than tho authorized faro,
or to neglect, upon demand, to show a list of the duly authorized "Rates of
Kiro," or, not being engaged,, to refuse nny faro. In computing rntes of
fare, fare may be charged from tho tluio of leaving tho stand to the time
of returning thereto.
Section 7. Tho rates of faro for tho carrying of passengers for hlro

For runs with automobllos within a radius of six miles, between the
hours or 11 P. M. and 0 A. M.. the rates above provided may bo doubled.

Section 17. Any person who shnll vlolato nny ot the provisions of
this Ordinance shall he deemed kuIHt of n misdemeanor, nnd unon convic
tion thereof shnll be punished by n lino of not less thnn THREE OOLL'AHS ,
(13.00), ntiil not more tnnn ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS (iioo.oo), or uy
Imprisonment for n teim ot not exceeding tin cc months, or by botb such
fine and imprisonment.
SUCTION 18. This Ordlnanco shall take effect fifteen days from and
after tho dato of Km npprovnl.
