Hurry Sulzer and K, M. Miller of
Chicago wero touring with their
wives from VTenna to Dresden ami
proceeding at a leisurely pace. Their
cur collided with a country wagon,
the driver of which obstinately re.
fused to make way for the auto.
A child, sitting on a load of hay,
was thrown to the ground by the

Immediately, but were relieved to
find the joungster suffering more
from the shock than Injuries. As
they wore prepfing to depart u
crowd of peasants "collected, and,
with a hostile attitude, surrounded
the car. The peasants having seen
the German Hag flying beside the

bile assumed the occupants were
(Jermuns and welcomed the opportu
nity of giving their sworn foes a
sound drubbing. Kroni threats tho
peusantH proceeded to blows and
stone throwing;
Mrs. Sulzer waa hit by one of the
missiles and made unconscious, With
their blood up, Sulzer and Miller
drew revolvers and began flr.'ng with
the object of uttructing the atten
tion of the people living In the vi
cinity and Intimidating the peasants.
This waa of no avail, und they were
keeping their assnllauta nt bay with
their llreurms when gendarmes rush
ed up. Seeing the Impossibility or
rescuing the Americans from the vio
lence of the mob, they arrested the
party, whereupon the peusantH calm
