Incident In Philippine Army
Life Revived By Marriage

ried on June 6 In Sacramento to l.leut.
Col. Robert F. Ames or the United
Staten Arm, Col. Amoi pasHPd

husband, jouuit Meut. Janney, at a

tions as well as the things not dis
covered or made public about that
Eleven years ago, Mrs. Ames, who
was then Madellno McKlssIck, daugh
ter of tho late Judge McKlssIck, chief
counsel for tho Southern Pacific Coin
I any, was married In San Francisco to
Dr. Podar IJrugutere. The wedding at
tracted much attention, as both Ilru
gulere and Miss McKlssIck were so

separated and Mrs. Driigulerc obtain
ed a divorce on tho ground of non
support, During 1905 Mrs, Hrugulfcrc left Ban,
Francisco and went to New york.
There she met Second Lieutenant
Clarence W. Janney of the army
Lieutenant Janney was a member of
an old Virginia family and had won his
lieutenant's commission after having
enlisted In the army as a private.
Three cars later Lieutenant Jan
ney and Mrs. nriigulero were married,
and soon after that the Lieutenant
was ordered to the Philippines with
his regiment. His wife accompanied
Mrs. Janney soon became n social
favorite In the army circles of the
Islands, tloth she and her husband
became close friends of Lieutenant
Colonel Ames, who wns Lieutenant.

On til" night of March 12, 1910,
Lieutenant Janney shot and killed
himself In tho quarters of Lieutenant
Colonel Ames. Ills sulcldo was wit
nessed hy his wife and Ames, and by
other persons who had been entertain
ed at dinner by Ames.
It was said that Lieutenant Jannoy
was Intensely Jealous of his wife, and
that he created a distressing scene at
the dinner tablo when he discovered
that a champagne coolor, which had
ueen presented to him by fellow-officers,
bad been given by Mrs. Janney
Lieutenant Janney left the Ames
quarters In great nnger. Soon after
ward he returned and In the presence
of Ames and his guests drew n pistol
and shot himself In the head.
Ah a result of tho suicide Ames was
court-martialed, Tho trial court ex
onerated him, but the commanding
general ordered a reopening of the
case and directed the court to secure
further ovldence. Ames finally lost
twelve numbers and was returned to
his regiment. During part of the tlmo
between the Jannoy suicide and the
final determination of the case Ames
wps under arrest In his quarters.
Mr. Janney, clad In deep mourning
arrived In San, Francisco from the
Philippines on August 27, 1910. Sho
announced at 'that lime that she In
tended to proceed to Virginia and
make her homo with the family of her

Church, at the home of Mrs. Janney's
brother, Attorney Robertson T. Mc

It Is said that Ames and his bride
left Sacramento for a tour of the Cast
Immediately after the wedding.

Reno Fernandez, father, and Manuel
Fernandez, son, hud their innings In
police court this morning before Judge

down upon the ground. On that ac

to the sad tale of his father, who told
Judge Monxurrnt about the trouble.
Reno said that Manuel has not been
u good boy, and that on this particular
occasion ho struck his sister on the
head without any provocation. That
was when he interfered, and Manuel
then pushed him oft the veranda and
Knocked him to the ground.
Munuel textlQed on the stand that he
wns having trouble with his 'younger
brother, who by accident knocked the
"old man" down on the ground. On
this showing the court discharged the
REAL ESTATE TRANSACTION.
