CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTE
NANCE OK SIDEWALKS IN THK
CITY AND COUNTY OK HONO
LULU7 TERRITORY OK HA
WAII. HE IT ORDAINED BY THE PEOPLE
OK THE CITY AND COUNTY
OF HONOLULU:
Section 1. Every owner of land
abutting on or adjoining any public
highway or street In tho City and
County of Honolulu, Territory of Ha
waii, upon being required by tho
Hoard of Supervisors of' tho City and
County of Honolulu, and being noti
fied of such requirement as herein
after provided, shall curb (ho Hide
walk adjacent to such laud, on (ho
established lines with mihstantlul
curbing of Ktono or concrete, which
curbing shall conform to the follow
ing appcillcatiouH:
Slnuo Curbing: Tho curb stones
shall bo of a good quality lava rork,
or bo of concrete, in rectangular
blocks of which not less (ban 50 por
cent, shall ho nt least 36 Inches in
length, and tho remaining 50 per cent
shall ho at least 30 Inches In length
except for proper closure pieces, and
shall bo not less (ban 16 Indies In
depth, and of a matched width of 6
Inches on top
Tho lop of natural Ktono curbing
shall he axed to a smooth surface with
an upward hovel from tho fuco of 1-8
Inch In tho 6 Inches.
Tho fare of natural stono curbing
shall ho out of wind mid bush ham
mered to n depth of 10 Inches holow
tho top. Tho remainder of (ho face to
bo point dressed. Tho hack shull bo
point dressed to a uniform thlcknesH
of 6 Inches for at least 3 Inches from
tho lop and shall bo free of projec
tions of more than 2. Inches.
Tho ends must bo squaro with tho
lop and pormlt of a Joint not exceed

specified for base course of concrete
sidewalks of the same dimensions as
specified for natural stono curbing,
nnd all exposed surfaces shall show
a smooth finish.
All curbing laid under tho provi
sions of this Ordinance shall bo set
true to tho established lines and
grades and nhnll bo laid. Jointed nnd
set In a good substantial, workmnu
liko manner.
Section 2. Evory owner of land
abutting on and adjoining any public
hlgKway or street In the City and
County of Honolulu outside of the area
hereinafter specifically sot forth, after
curbing has been laid as hereinbefore
provided upon being required by the
Hoard of Supervisors of (he City and
lounty of Honolulu and being notified
of such requirement as hereinafter
provided, shall grass or gravel tho
spurn between the established side
walk lines adjacent (o such Iond, and
shall keep such wldownlk clean and
free of all weeds and rcfuso and
shall keep tho grass growing thereon
cut so that tho sumo shall not bo a
nuisance or an Inconvenience to (he
public passing thereon; provided,
however, that the owner of any land
abutting on and adjoining any public
street or highway outBldo of tho urea
hereinafter specifically set out, may,

walk, construct between tho estab
lished sldowalk lines a sldowalk of

construction must be proportioned by
exact measurement. No mixing of
materials on paement will be per
mitted, nnd no concrete or top mix
ture shall be used after having been
mixed either dry or wet for more than
thirty (30) minutes. Concrete shall
be laid In blocks of not to exceed
threo feet In width by the width of
walk and shall be marked ort Into1
squares by the use of proper marking
nnd Jointing tools. Screeds of sum-,
clcnt Btlffness must be UBed (o pre-;

width of the walk. Concrete blocks
shall be put In alternating, and each
block finished with top course Imme

Section 4. Whenever the Hoard of
Supervisors of the City and County of
Honolulu shnlt deem It proper or neC'
essnry that any sidewalk or sidewalks
shall be curbed or curbed and con
structed ns hereinbefore provided, It
shall, by resolution, designate a lo
cntlon or area of sidewalk construc
tion, which location or area shall not
he less In extent than one side of a
street or highway between two Inter
sectlng cross streets. Said resolution
shall also contain a provision requir
ing (lie owner or owners or the land
abutting on and adjoining any public
stree( or highway along which said
sidewalk Is to be so constructed with
in such locution or urea, to curb or
curb and costrtict the same as pro
vided herein, and snld Hoard of Su
