MEAETIIV-BAILEYS CHEMICAL COMPOUND FLUID EXTRACT OF SAKSAPARILLA, for purifying the blood, and removing all diseases arising from injudicious use of Mercury, exposures and imprudenciea in life, Scrofula, Kings' Evil, White Swelling, diseasos of the liver and skin, constitutional woakness, chronic and nervous affections, &c. &c. It has also been found a most useful tpring and fall pu. rifier of the blood. The rapidity with which this article has sold, and the vory flattering ru. commendutions it has received, are evidences of its superior efficacy. The subjoined are a. mong the communications in tho hands of tho proprietor : In calling attention to tlio medical virtues of this celebrated plant, I would advert to the fact familiar with every physician, that a numerous class of diseases arise from that impure state of tho blood, which this active remedial agent is so efficacious in purifying. The great importance attached by modicnl practitioners to the proper, ties of the Sarsaparilla has engaged the attention of chemists, as to the mode of preparation in which its virtues can be most advantageously combined. Their experiments have resulted in the discovery that the Chemical Compound Fluid Extract is decidedly superior to any other form in which it can be used. Since the introduction of the Fluid Extract, it has grown into rapid and extensive use, and its reputation is constantly in. creasing. We consider it one of tho most valua ble articles in the Materia Modica, and find a ma. terial advantage in tho standard preparation of u niform strength which is obtained by the Fluid Extract. Its superiority over the Decoctions and Syrups sometimes modo use of, is strikingly appar ent. It obviates the necessity of preparing fresh decoctions every day ; and doos not surfeit and nausoate the stomach with the Iarga proportion of sugar which has to be takon with each dose of the syrup, and which renders it incapable of holding much of the pure extractive matter in solution. One bottle of the Fluid Extract is fully equal to a gallon of the syrup, or the decoction, as usually prepared. The virtues of this valuable medicine cannot be too extensively known, as there is scarcely an individual who would not be benefitted by its use. The uniform testimony of medical men in its fa. yor, and the great success which has attended its introduction, both in hospitals and private prac tice, is a convincing proof of its valuo, and of its superiority over other preparations of the Sarsaparilla. Twelve years have passed sinco this sceno transpired, and it has been long since forgotten; but Helen and Harry often recito it to their prattling boy, when tho thundering of tho cataract disturbs the eve nine's stillness. . The Falls themselves, are not void of painful interest. They will ever be re. mcmbered with sorrowing emotions, as tho winding sheet of poor Sam Patch. It was here, as our readers recollect, this singular man made his last leap. Well do wo remember tho event. We can never for get it. It is written upon our memory as with a pen of iron, and in our imagination we often seo him hanging in mid-uir casting a reproachful look at' those -M-ho, by their presence, encouraged his feats of frenzy. Tho novelty and boldness o tho act had collected thousands to witness it. As far as tho eye could reach, might be seen tho gazing multitude awaiting, with tho anxiety of blood-hounds, tho fatal leap of tho billows prey. Alter tho multitudes which lined both banks of the river, had se- cured for themselves satisfactory locations, a dea:h-hke stillness for a moment pervad- ed tho vast concourse. But tho stillness was soon broken by a mighty shout, which seemed to shako tho everlasting rocks of the surrounding hills, as Sam mounted the tottering scaffold from which ho was so soon to leap into eternity. A reckless wave of his brawny arms, was answered by another shout, which drowned in its tu mult, tho roarincs of tho michtv waters.
