SfSHKSK^P HE PRINCETON UNION. PUBLISHED EVERY THURSDAY. TEIEll^S, $1.50 IFer "STear. GU EWING, EDITOR. G. I. STAPLES, BUSINESS MANAGER. Office: First St., East of Court House. PRINCETON, MINN., FEB. 21, 1895. HAYWARD should have a new name. Tho way things look, for him, at pres ent, Ilelhvard would be a good substi tute. HE Alexandria Republican has passed its lirst annual mile stone, and now stands out as a full-Hedged legal now&papor. It is a clean, well-gotten up paper and richly deserves the lib eral patronage that its advertising col umns show. THE council of Stillwater havo passed an ordinance prohibiting chil dren, under sixteen years of age, from running around the streets aftor nine o'clock in the evening. The ordinance it. a move in the right direction. Why not try it in Princeton? THE junketing committee of tho leg islature had a very pleasant time dur ing their visit to the State Reform School. That institution it, crowded and more room is needed. Otherwise, some of the legislative districts would piobably be shy a member or so. Du. KEELY, the jag cure man, bays "Grip can bo easily cured by taking four grain doses of asafoetida, four tiuus per day for a few days.1' Asa- foetida is like a certain kind of cheese, more on the smell than it is on the ta.?te. It is a remedy well worth trial. THE State senate did the proper thing last week by unanimously pass ing a law making husband and wife both liable for the wages of their ber uuit girls.Shiytnn Gazette. Let that bill become a law. It is a step la tDe right direction. It will find unta\orable comment only in the language and acts of those people who make &uch legislation necessary. THE failure of the Whitmore Bros, in hi1 milling business at Montevideo, is 1 hard blow to that community. Fiona the Leader it appears that the a^-M-'ts are ^21.000 in excess of the lia bilities. With this preponderance in their fa\ or.it is hoped that some means ma\ be derived for the continuation of the business under the old firm name. A GOODLY number of exchanges have favored us with words of encourage ment since we began work as editor of this paper. The Minnetonka Ncics of last week added another paragraph \vi ich is very much appreciated. Bob's shoes are big ones, and we can not till them, but while we hold our present position, an honest effort will be made to get out a partially respect able UNION. IN many States, the law makes $5,000 tho maximum amount to be collected from a railroad in case of death by accident on the road. There should be no limit whatever placed on the value of human life. When people are crushed to death by negligence, or carelessness, the penalty should be such that every available means will be taken to prevent the recurrence of such dreadful calamities. A great many of the shocking disasters are traceable to neglect, and when that is the case, the companies should pay roundly for them. HE State census will be taken this year. About sixty thousand dollars will be required to enumerate the 1,040,000 bouls in thio rapidly growing State. Sixty thousand dollars distrib uted to probably 1,500 men, as enumer ators,, and for other incidental ex penses, io not money foolishly ex pended. "It is a good thing, push it along."' An official showing, as the completed census will give, of the de velopment of our State within the past five years will be worth more as an in ducement to promote immigration and influx of capital than any other thing outside of the political complexion of the State. This is no dream, but an actual corker. ST ATE O MINNESOTA, COUNTY O Milie Lao,ss. In Probate Couit, Special Tenn, Feb 19th. 1895. In the matter of the estate of Isaac Shannon, deceased.
