The publisher of said newspaper having offered to publish the same in said newspaper as re quired by the statutes in such case made and provided.and at such ratesas are by law allowed, and said newspaper being of the size and char acter required by such statutes, and said pub lisher having given the required bond, and said bond having been duly approved by the board of county commissioners, Now, therefore, be it further resolved, That the Princeton Union be and the same is hereby designated as the official newspaper of said Mille Lacs county, in which shall be published the annual financial statement, the proceed ings of the board of county commissioners, the delinquent tax list and all other necessary county printing for the year A. D. 1900. Upon settlement as to the salary of the county treasurer for the year 1899. it was found by the board that the sum of one hundred dollars ($100) was still due said treas urer, and on motion the county auditor was directed to issue his warrant in favor of K. H. Burrell, as such treasurer, for said amount in payment of the same. The official bond of John F. Petterson as court commissioner, was presented and duly examined by the board, and on motion the said bond and the sureties thereon were accepted and approved. On motion the board decided by a unanimous vote to increase the salary of the county superintendent of schools from four hundred and eighty dollars ($480) per annum to six hun dred and fifty dollars ($650) for the year 1900. The following report of the county board of audit was presented and examined by the board, and on motion the same was accepted and ordered spread on the minutes of this meeting: Princeton, Minn., December 5,1899. Nd. 4 100 00 On motion it was ordered by the board that warrants be issued by the county auditor, in favor of the county treasurer, for the sum of one hundred dollars ($100) monthly for the first eleven months of the year I960 as part payment of the salary of said treasurer for the ensuing year. Balance of the salary found to be due for the year to be paid upon settlement by the board of county commissioners at their annual session in January 1901. The certified statements filed by the county attorney and deputy coroner, showing the amount of fees, gratuities and emoluments of whatever nature reoeived by them in connec tion with the duties of their respective offices for the year 1899, were examined by the board, and on motion the same were accepted and ordered placed on file. In the matter of purchasing the lire wood for the eourt house for the ensuing year, on motion it was unanimously voted that the clerk of this board be. and he is hereby in structed to advertise for sealed bids for sixty corda of green cordwood. in quantities of ten cords and upward. The amount and kinds of wood to be furnished as follows: Ten cords of body poplar wood, four feet long, and fifty cords of body maple and oak cordwood (not mixed.) four feet long. Said wood to be deliv ered in the court house yard in Princeton as soon as possible. Bids to be received by the county auditor up to 1 o'clock p. M.. on Monday. January 15th, 1900. John McCool and L. S. Libby, members of this board, are herely ap pointed a committee to open and examine all bids received and are authorized to award con tracts for such wood. The committee reserve the right to reject any or all bids. In the matter of the applications presented by the Foley Bean Lumber company, asking for correction of assessment and abatement of taxes for years 1897 and 1898 on lands owned by said firm, in township 42, range 26, and town ship 42. range 27, and described in their appli cations on file. On motion the board voted unanimously to recommend that said applica tions be granted. On motion of Commissioner Cundy the board voted unanimously to abate the penalties, costs and interest on taxes of 1897and 1898 on all cut lands owned by the Foley Bean Lumber company in township 42. range 26. and town ship 42, range 27, providing said taxes are paid within a reasonable time. In the matter of the petition presented bv R. S. Shaw, the following final order was made and adopted Whereas, the petition -of R. S. Shaw, a legal voter, free-holder and resident of school dis trict Native (5), in this county, with the ap proval of the county superintendent endorsed thereon, representing that he is the owner of the lands hereinafter described, which are sit uate in said school district, and adjoin school district No. four (4). and asking that he with his said lands may be set off from said school district No. five (5) to said adjoining school district Nor four (4), for the follow ing reasons: The distance from his residence to the school house in district No. five (5) being nearly four miles by the traveled road, while the school house in district No. four (4) is located two and one-half miles from his home: was presented to the board of county commissioners of this county, at a session of said board held on the 27th day of November. A. D. 1899, for the action of said board thereon and Whereas, it was thereupon ordered by said board that a hearing should be had on said pe tition at a session of said board commencing on the 2nd day of January. A. D. 1900, at the county auditor's office, in the village of Prince ton in said county and Whereas, it was further ordered in and by said)order that notice of the time and place of such hearing be given by posting a copy of said order in one public place in each of the school districts to be affected by said petition, and by handing to and leaving with the clerk of each of said school districts, personally, a copy of said order, at least ten days before the time appointed for such hearing and Whereas, at the said session of said board of county commissioners commencing on said 2nd day of January, A D. 1900. due proof of the posting and service of said order of hearing as therein directed and required, more than ten days prior to said last named date, having been made and filed, said petition was publicly read and considered by the board, with everything that was said by said interested parties for or against granting the prayer of the petitioner, and said board being of the opinion that said petition should be granted, it is hereby or dered and determined, that the said petition and the following described lands owned by him, to-wit: The northeast quarter of the northeast quarter (nej* of neAO of section sixteen (10 township thirty-six (36), range twenty-seven (27), be and the same are hereby set off from said school district No. five (5) to said adjoining school district No. four (4), and said lands are hereby made apart of said last named school district for all purposes what ever. [Seal.] Upon opening and examining the bids re ceived for medical and surgical attendances on the county poor of Mille Laps county for the year 1900, together with all necessary medicines for the same, the bid presented by Dr. O. C. Tarbox was found to be the .lowest offer re-" ceived, and on motion the board decided by a unanimous vote that the bid of the said Dr. O. C. Tarbox be accepted: and the bondaccom- nylng said bid and the surety thereon hav ing been duly approved by the board of county commissioners, the said Dr. O. C. Tarbox was declared duly appointed'county physician of Mille Lacs county for the year ending Decem ber 81,1900. at a salary of one hundred forty four dollars ($144). And it was ordered by the board that said salary be paid in equal month ly installments, at the end of each month, by warrants to be issued by the county auditor. On motion the hearing on the petition for a new school district, to be composed of town ship 39, range 27, was continued until the next session of the board- On motion the hearing on the petition for a change of county road presented by E. E. Bige low and others was continued until the next meeting of the board. In the matter of the petition for vacation of^a highway, presented by Wm. Almquist and others, the following order of hearing and ap pointment of committee was made and adopted: STATE OF MINNESOTA, i County of Mille Lacs, ffe Whereas, On the 3rd day of January. 1900, a petition, signed by twenty-seven freeholders of said county, was presented to us, praying for the vacation of a portion of a highway running into more than one town of said county, and not within the limits of any incor porated city, and described as follows: Be ginning at the northwest corner of section twenty-two (22), in township thirty-eight (38), range twenty-six (26), and running thence east on the section line and terminating at the northeast corner of the northwest quarter of the noithwest quarter (nwji of nw^) of sec tion twenty-two (22), township thirty-eight (88) range twenty-six (26): and the board of county commissioners of said county having deter mined that in the judgment of a majority of its members said petition is reasonable on its face It is hereby ordered, That a hearing be had on said petition at Princeton, in said county, on Tuesday, the 27th day of February, 1900, at 11 o'clock A. M., at which time and place said board will hear all that may be said in favor of, and against, the granting of said petition. It is further ordered, That C. W. Burnhelm, John McCool and G. H. Deans, members of this board, be, and they hereby are, appointed a committee to examine said proposed vacation of said road, and that said committee meet upon the route of said road at C.W.
