On Saturday some rascally indi vidual poisoned a valuable watchdog owned by Joseph Nokes. During the four days following the freeze-up last week 106 horses were shod at Wm. Cordiner's shop. C. H. Rines, T. H. Caley and J. T. D. Sadley were hobnobbing in St. Paul on Tuesday and Wednesday. Mrs. J. C. Borden, who resides at Macalester while her son, Charles, is attending school there, was in Princeton over Sunday. George S. Smith of Cambridge passed through town last Thursday en route home from a visit to the lumber camps near Milaca. Justice Cilley sentenced a drunken, sad-eyed prisoner to pay a fine of $5 and costs, or remain in durance 10 days, on Tuesday. The fine was paid. Some of the stores closed at 8 o'clock during the week to permit the clerks to attend the revival meetings. Most of them met their girls instead. Hallelujah. Two tramps enjoyed hospitality at the village bastile on Monday night. As the cell was occupied by an ob streperous fellow from the country the vags curled up on the floor. Peculiar Incidents in Prison Life. Many are the peculiar incidents that happen in a prison and many are the unexpected meetings and greetings of former friends and ene mies who have been leveled to one rank behind these stone walls and bars. The most singular incidents of this character usually happen on holidays when the inmates are permitted to freely intermingle and converse with each other, and New Year's day was productive of some very extraordi nary meetings. One man serving a five year inde terminate sentence shook hands with the man who acted as foreman of the jury which convicted him and who has lately come to spend double that time as a resident of the silent city. Another inmate exchanged New Year's greetings with the minister who married him and still another was comparing his misfortune with that of an attorney who helped send him here. All of them are wearing the grey uniform of a disgraceful ward of the stateone no better than the other in the eyes of society and judgment of the law.Prison Mirror.
