Hold Fast to What We Have.
The prohibition and county option
people are getting each other by the
ears for a scrap in the next legisla
ture. The county option people are
believed to favor giving county option a
fair trial without going farther just at
present, but the prohibitionists are
loud in their declaration for state
wide prohibition. It would seem wise
for the two enemies of booze to get
together and protect the county op
tion law, or they may loose out on

Miss Anna Coleman has gone to a
Minneapolis hospital for an operation.
John Larson has sold his fine team
to Francis O'Leary and will go to
Montana to work the coming summer.
The road at the river eist of the
town hall is under three feet of water
and traveling is dangerous.
Grover Taylor, wife and daughter,
went to Glendorado last Sunday after
noon for a visit at the Gunder George
home. Grover returned home Monday
and Mrs. Taylor remained for a long
er visit with her sister.
Mrs. Glen Leonard entertained the
society at her home last weekThurs
day. A large crowd of ladies were
present. All spent a pleasant day.
Mr. Bailer and family and Mrs.
Hough and daughter called on Charles
Brande and wife Sunday afternoon.
Mrs. VanKleek will entertain the
Aid society on Thursday, April 13.

officers last Sunday morning as fol

Ben Hartman of Greenbush was in
Blue Hill Sunday, a guest at the home
of Nels Larson.
Miss Mina Groff returned home last
week from an extended visit with her
sister, Mrs. Bell Jones, at Greenbush

Herman Reibe purchased the 120-
acre farm of Mrs. Neumann. Consid
eration, $60 an acre. Mrs. Neumann
will move to Princeton in the near fu
ture. Reinhold Bartz will live on the
farm.
A surprise party was tendered the
Albrecht young folks last Monday ev
ening. The Albrechts will soon move
tor Mankato. Everyone at the party
reports a good time.
The auction sale at Albrecht's last
Tuesday was well attended and every
thing brought a good price. A total
of about $1,700 was realized and Mr.
Albrecht feels well satisfied.
The town board met last Tuesday
and paid up bills and attended to other
business matters. The various offi
cers elected qualified for office.
W. Talen is our new road boss and
after this thaw he has a lot of work
in sight immediately. Go to it, Bill!
Ernest Hammon and Rheinold Kou
ert had a cold bath one day last week.
While crossing a grade covered with
about two feet of water (near the Sell
horn river bridge) they did not see
that the culvert had been washed away
and suddenly the horses plunged into
about six feet of water, drawing the
wagon in behind them. The men jump
ed from the wagon onto the backs of
the horses, and after floundering about
in the water for a while, the horses
succeeded in climbing out on the other
side. The wagon was still hitched to
the horses. The two men were glad
to get on terra firma again, in'fact so
glad that they did not return home un
til the next day, and then drove over
by way of Princeton across the steel
bridge.
The heavy thaw has brought on an
immense quantity of water, and the
comparatively small culverts which
are placed across the road in the coun
ty ditch have again proved far too
small to carry the water. The three
culverts which lay in the county ditch
are all but washed away the dumps
are all torn to pieces by the overflow
ing water and it will cost nearly as
much to fix up these dumps as a good
bridge would have cost and then it
will only be fixed up to happen all
over again when another rush of wat
er comes. We are not trying to find
fault with anybody but are stating
conditions just as they are, trusting
that the men in authority will see the
matter in a true light and put in bridg
es of ample size to avoid a repetition.
The robins are here and wagons are
coming into use again. Here's hoping
that the sleds will go into summer
quarters

in the evening. Everybody welcome.
The next Farmers' club meeting will
be held on Friday evening, April 14.
Some Milaca talent together with lo
cal talent will be on the program.
George Reibe and George Albrecht
left on Monday for Mankato, where
they intend to work for the summer.
S. Veenstra is on the sick list, but
at last reports we were glad to hear
he is improving.
Owing to the almost impassable con
dition of the roads, the Christian En
deavor society did not meet last Sun
day evening.
L. Slagter accompanied his daugh
ter Ellen to Minneapolis last Wednes
day. Miss Slagter will work in the
city for a time. Mr. Slagter returned
the same evening.
P. C. Vansomeren attended to busi
ness in Minneapolis between trains or
Wednesday.
B. Tidd of Milaca had an exciting
time last Tuesday evening. While re
turning from Princeton with a livery,
team hitched to a cutter he turned out
of the road to let a team pass. The
horses made a dash forward and in
trying to hold them back the lias
broke and the team made a short turn
upsetting the cutter and spilling the
driver, robes and blankets into the
road. Mr. Tibbs went to the J. Her
tel home and phoned to Milaca for
another team. Later reports stated
Ihe the runaway team reached Milaca
in record time. Nothing broke on the
cutter.
