Ii appears that but one agent has as yet been apj. tint ed ; but the fact that the cultivation o' hemp is beginning to receive the undi ' vided attention cf a large portion of the most wealthy and enterprising fanners, throughout the state, renders it epiite probable that there will be dep-ils and In tpections established at different points on the western waters. We have every facility, and consequently every induce ment to go extensively into the cultiva tion of hemp, that any other state or country can offer. The editor of the Western Missouri. eays, that in comparing a sample of Uns sian Hemp left with him by the p-uvcrn-ment agent, with a sample of Missouii growth, he found it not only longer, but the lint of finer texture and of greater trength. The fall term of our Circuit Court ha just closed. There were but two criini- nal prosecutions; the cases bciusr mostly money suits. Thomas McDonald, who was committed some time since under a charge of horse slea'inr, was com ic'.ed and sentenced to the Pcnhcutiary, for the term of four yeirs. 13"We invite the attentian of all who have on hand a surplus of grain or ll.nr, to the circular of Mr. Geo. Heal or New-Orlcaxs. The Bee of the 17th u!t. says: "The health of the city is by no means good; the yellow fe ver is on the increase, and we caution - strangers to remain at a distance until assured that there is no danger." The New York Tribune, referring to the probability of a contest between Messrs. To Hit Farmer, Ihz .Miller and lte Jfcr chant of Illinois, .Missouri, Iowa and Wisconsin: I deem it important to your interests, that you should have some data, by which you may estimate the probable de mand, both at home and abroad, for Wheat great staple of ihe States of Ii.inois, Miso;iri. Iowa and YisconMn: and the undersigned designs, in the prosecution id his business, to furnish this d.ita as far as lays in Lis power to gether nil estimates and opinions o:i this (St. L ittis) and oilier grain markets, i:i the shape of a monthly Circular. Opinions and cstioiates will be mv own, ihe data, however, on which 1 giound opinions and arrive at conclusions, will be drau n from official sources, to'relher with the letters of my correspouudcuts. In a monetary point of view, the What! crop of the United States is secondary in importance only to Cotton the great .staple of cur country; and as necessary food for its sustauce of man, we arc ac customed to look to its yield with intense interest, from the time it begins to ripen in the field, till it is stacked iu the yard, or stored in the barn of the husband man. Providence has usually favored our country with plentiful harvests this year with one of superabundance, Let us examine ils effects in a monetary point of view. The Wheat crop of the United States in the year 18JJ, was by the Marshall's return eighty four millions eight hundred and twen'y three thousand bushels. I esti mate the crop of the present year to ex- ed 'hat of 1833 by 30 per cent, or nearly one third giving an aggregate production in 1842 of one hundred and ten millions and twenty six monsand bush els! This great increase (for I estimate it at 20 per cent over last year's produc tion) is readily accounted for 'from two prominent causes: Jrirst Wheat m 1841 vield, of that, which wag sou The statistics of consumption of the United ' K'" v "u u ion ... ...... . .., nai l the Farmer better than any othcrl'""1"5 i"""e,",,e pjmei.t, . Let us examine from whence this demand is to come: In ordinary seasons of yield in Eng land, the annual import ol foreign bread stufi's into that kingdom Grain and Flour included is 20 millions ol bush els. One half of (his is from the United Slates direct and iroiA Ihe Qiuadas, and not less than 10 millions of bushels more equal to nearly 2,D7o',000 bids, of riour finds its way to South Ameri ca and the islands of the sea. Wo have a balance of U 1-2 millions which may go into the crop of '43, without material ly efiecting the price ul '42. Hence, 1 a erage a!i u,,ic ls? l,Juw niIU,ty ccnts. St.,t;.c , losu cal ,lie mountains, will iiot yield much more than an average crop probably 5 per cent, above it. Ohio ill yield not less than 21 millions of Buflalo and Orleans. From the best data within my reach, I estimate the j iel I of those States bor dering on the Missis.siiiid, ;md ol which St. Louis is the great depot, as follows: liliio.is yiMfd m l:t:, 3 :t:t'..' It on the other hand, the crop in Great Britain should be an average one it is worthy nf note as a consolation to the Farmer that from the year lS'JO to that of 1841, prime wheat has never been less in price in Philadelphia than 92 certs, equal to $4,Clilbr l!"o lbs. or a bid. i.f Flour. This was iu 1S20 and '2ti, in both of u liic li years this cmntry and Great Bri tain had plentiful harvests. Vheat in Ohio in 1S20 sold for 20 cents, in IHM il brought '.' cts. The discrepancy be tween 20, 38, while the prices of each year were the same 92 1 in the atlaulic cities, may be accounted for by the facili ties of steam navigation in 1820 over 1820.
