FORT RENO ITENS. Mounted drill has been discon tinued until further orders. Maj. Randall, 23d Inf, who has been absent since the 3d of Septem ber, returned on the 5th inst, and re sumed command of the Post. Private Raquet, Co. G 4th Caval ry, who deserted from this Post Sep. 15th, was apprehended at his home in Davenport, Iowa, and has been sent to Fort Leavenworth for trial. Co. H 4th Caw, which has been absent since Mar 27th, on detached service in New Mexico, is expected here soon, as are also the two com panies of the 24th Inf. which have been ordered to take station here. Companies B & I, 16th Inf. have been under "marching orders" for some time, and are only awaiting the arrival of the colored troops, who arc to relieve them here, to start en route for Texas. Mr. Wyatt the gentlemanly book keeper of N. W. Evans & Co., will leave for his eastern home on Wednesday the lOtn inst. Mr. W. leaves a host of friends behind him and takes with him their best wish es for his future success and pros perity. His place is supplied by Mr. Holmes, a gentleman from St. Louis. This is Mr. IPs first experi ence of life on the frontier and we hope it will prove a pleasant one. I overheard the following conver sation between two soldiers and thought it so rich that 1 give it ver batim said one : "Capt. is al ways punctual. 1 admiiv punct uality," to which the oilier re plied, "You ought to know better than to say 'punctuality.' You should have said, 'I admire his punctuation.' Punctuality, accord ing to Webster's New Bridge Dic tionary, means to pronounce words correctly ; I studied all that , Ob yes, I know I am right, for the word 'punctuality' is the plural of ortheo py, and it is a noun because it means something."
