Two Xca Arrested and Oso, Ilorber, Killed. John Slsiiin.er? .ReitolifilT & Co. Thcro has been considerable train robber nows In tho past week. First' two mon wcro arrested at Obetopaand Parsons and later on anothor was killed by tho marshals near Saline court houso. Tho latter occurrence la announced through n dispatch from Tahlcquah, dated last Saturday, and is as follows: "John Barber.nllas Geo, Wrlght.was shot through tho heart by deputy mar shals near hero to-day. Barbor was a notorious Texas desperado, who com mitted sovcral murders lit Bell county and Tom Green county, Tcx3. He was Implicate! in tto rec.it Missouri, Kansas A Tc fas '"'jbury. The doputy marshals aro certain of It. There was a reward of $1000 offered for his cap ture and $1000 for bis body dead or alive. Tho deputy marshals have been on his track for several days. About ono year ago ho eluded about thlrty-flvo men who tried to capturo him at Dog Greek, I. T. This morn ing Deputy Marshals Oounolly.White,' Petty and Rutherford and posso en countered him near Saline court house, on Spring creek, about twenty-Gvo miles from Tahlcquah. Barber was riding when discovered. Ho imme.ll atcly began firing his Winchester, In dlan fashion crouching behind bis po ny after each shol.but was shot through the heart after fifty shots had been ex changed, lils body was brought here to-night. Some timo ago a steel bicast plato" was found where n robbery had been committed. To-day Barber's brother recognized It as belonging to tho dead desperado, who had been ac customed to wear it. Tho marshals bcllcvo that tho other Mis souri, Kansas and Texas robbors will bo captured In a few days." From a gentleman Who wasntTahlo qualt when the remains wero brought Into that town, tho following particu lars were obtained and doubtless they are more accurate than tho abovo : Tho officers had learned that Barber waa being harbored at tbo homo ol his brother-in-law, a man named Palmer, whoso sister he (Barber) had married In Arkansas last fall. Beforo day Sat urday morning they accordingly took their stand In tho neighborhood of the houso and awaited developments. Presently Doputy Connolly heard a horse "nlrkcr" down In the corn field and turned his fsco In that direction. About twenty minutes later ho saw a man riding up a corn row. Tho officer was standing behind a sapling and when tho man had advanced to within fifteen stops ho gavo tho command to "throw up." A Winchester cracked in a second and then Connolly leveled cd bis gun nml fired. As he did so tho liorso turned and ran, and Its rider poured a streak of fire after him from his weapon. When ho had covered somo 230 yards Connolly fired again and tho man fell, but it waa tho first shot that had dono tbo work. Palmer told tho officers that the man they had killed was Barbor nnd a numbor of persons at Tahlequalt identified him positively. Tho liorso ho was riding had been stolen from a man named Smith, living near Cincinnati, Ark., and Zuko Proctor, who was authorised to do so, paid tho reward and took it homo. Wo bcliovo tliero is no direct proof that Barber was connected with the late robbery, but his name hits been fre quently associated with the crime. Ho Is, however, charged with the Ver digris brldgo robbery of last year and tho officers held writs Issued on ac count of that transaction. Tho Kansas arrests aro thus report ed by tho Chctopa Democrat: "Laat Monday two mon wero arrest ed on suspicion of being Implicated In ttio M K. A T. train robbery at Pry or creek ono week ago last Sunday. For several weoks four mon have been stopping a portion of tho timo with a widow in tho south part of town. They were seldom seen away from the houso during tho day tlmo, and as there was so much petty thieving and burglarising going on in tho city, their actions arousod tho suspicion of our citixons, aud thoy wero closoly watched. Tliero woro four of them, end thoy wcro all known to have left town on Friday and Saturday beforo tho rob bery on Sunday night, and nothing more was seen of them until Thursday of laat week, when two or thrco of them roturnod, followod.by their com panions. Shortly after their retuin n couple ot them camo up town and bought somo clothing nnd a trunk. During all this tlmo they wero closuly watched, and on Sunday last it was docidud to arrest thuin, but upon in vestigation It waa found that only ono or two of them wero In tho city, and it was decided to wait until moro of them could bo captured. Mouday morning, howovor, It was decided that It would not do to wait lougor, and S. U. Sloano and I. u.
