The deeision in the Jloi 'Wahine case
which we publish to-day, illustrates the
danger of the practice of alloiriug unsea
worthy Havauan vessels to leave this
port, risking the Kves of all on board. AVe
sw by the evidence, and by thf finding of
tbe Court, that this schooner was well
known to be in bad condition, hero wn ship
wright testifying that ''she was unfit to
go outside,' and Capt. EncKsli testifying
that if he had known before he sailed
what he learned as soon as he got away,
he would never have sailed m her. The
result of this negligence or temerity, we
i do not know ou whose part, was that the
master and crew were lost ia the first gale.
The subject deserves attention.

tory, and fully a-sure as that a fine quali
ty of silk can be produced in this king
dom. Experienced silk growers are fully
satisfied that tbe mnlberry tree can be
grown here to a large extent in many locali
ties. One gentkntaa, Mr. Junker, au ex
perienced silk grower is now engaged in
planting some twenty acres of land with
the tree in a locality he has chosen on Ha
waii It is to be sincerely hoped that he
will succeed, and that Hawaiian silk may
ere long become an article of commerce,
taking rank at the same time among the
first in quality produced in any part of
tbe world :
