At Iisoisvitle appeared in tbe railway station
a pretty girl, barefooted, with a pair of shoes and
a bag ia her band. On inquiry it appeared that
tbe bad walked eighteen miles from Salt river to
be married to the yoang fellow of her heart.
Sbe was modest, and being annoyed by the ob
Earratwn which she hod attracted, marched off in

Aboat ooe hundred young girls in the criminal
reformatory near Bath, England, rose in open
moliay. recently, on account of their dislike for
a sew laundry matron. Tbey broke tho windows
of tbe laundry, scaled tbe walls outside, and bar

was fo violent and tigerish that police had to be

It is related that Mis3 Anna Dickinson was
about to deliver her lecture on " Joan D'Arc," in
a sfflail western town, and it was considered ne
cessary that she should be introduced to the au
dience. Tbe ta:k fell upon the chairman of tbe
lecture committee, a worthy individual, bat not
very well versed in the history of the language of
tbe lamented La Pacelle. " Ladies and gentle
men," said he, advancing to the front of tbe plat
form, " Miss Dickinson will address yon, to-night,
oa the life and adventures of John Dark, one of
the greatest heroes of antiquity. We are not as
familiar with antiquity as wo ought to be, owing
to tbe long time since antiquity ; bat one thing
is certain, and that is that Miss Dickinson can

A project is on foot among nnmeron3 New
York ladies for forming an insurance company
baring only women for officers, agents and policy
holders. The wives of eminent merchants and
financiers, several well-known literary ladies, and
some of the foremost names in general society,
are already on the list of those deeply interested.
They hivo matured their plan with care, and a
circalar will be issued inviting tbe co-operation
of women throughout the country, and subscrip
tions to the capital slock of a " mixed " company,
but one in which all the profits, beyond legal in
terest on the capital, are to be returned to the
policy-holders. By employing women as agents
and clerks, and allowing low commissions, not to
exceed five per cent., thoy expect to make large
savings above any company now existing.

Sucli's California Asthma Cure !
TO THE PrBUC-For the past two yenra
I bare been subject to severe con?blnff fpeils, ea
pecUUr In tbe morning; as soon as I would awake. This
cough at last terminated In a most severe attack of aathrna;
thisbelc? a disease bered&ur to oar family. Last Ao
gtut, 1872, I was Mixed with a most severe attack of
asthma. I coughed so mcch that It seemed to take away
an strength. I could eat nothing without Its glrlnff me
severe pain In the chest and lun. I called In a doctor
took bis medicine bat to no purpose. I was recommended
to go Into a warmer climate, and I went to San Jose, but
change of climate had no effect, and when I left Son Jose
I never expected to rtcover. I finally tried this remedy,
which gave such relief at once that 1 continued taking It
and it effected a complete and radical cure. I am now as
bale and hearty as I ever was in my life. I have recom
mended It lo others, and It Invariably prod need tbe same
happy results. I now recommend It to tbe public, because
I believe, as a remedy for asthma, It has no equal.
Yours, ttc, FRACia U SUCH.
