"CaSOO." BoUitbe jarfirrfitrT and Itlandrr make
merry over a slight clerical or typographical error in
oar marine report or last week, which the veriest
simpleton would have paaaed over as perfectly excus
able. Such trivial errors do not deserve mention
along with those that betray stupidity. For instance,
lbe advertisement of the British hsrk Cart Tual,
(Which vessel left for San Francisco May 3.) appears
in tbe Adwrtitrr of ii Ey 8, 15 End 22 three consecu
tive weeks alter tbe vessel bad aailed. We instance
this out of several errors in the same dates to show
how absurd it is to attempt to criticise tbe work of
another, when more giariog errors appear In the
critic's own. As for tbe Idtmder, we look upon it
aa a nursing Infant, of hopelul future, to barm
which would be cruel. But ita nurses would do
well to remember tbe remark ol e writer, that liter
ary characters whose chief pastime Is in huntiog np
typographical errors, lower themselves to tbe level
ol street gossips, whose great delight consists iu re
tailing scandal about their neighbors.
