wat. Vbether there be any virtue or out in
Professor liolloway'a ointment aod pills, there is
a good deal of virtue in the Professor. It ia

the insane, near Virginia Water, at a cost of
100.000, but be ia now about to build a Coiver
aity for ladies at Kgbatn. on an estate which be
has just bought there for 25,000. This new
school will cost altogether 150,000. It is in
teeaiad to give tbe btgbest education to women
by professors, and the building is to be "the
handsomest college in Europe." Talk about
there being nothing like leather ;" indeed, pills
and ointment beat it by a long chalk.
Tbe following is said to be a very superior
method for staining any kind of wood in imitation
of walnut, while it is also cheap and simple in its
manipulation. The wood, previously thoroughly
dried aod wanned, is coated once or twice with a
stain composed of one pari, by weight, of extract
of walnut peel dissolved in six parts of soft water
by beating it to boiling and stirring. The wood
thus treated when half dry is brushed witb a so
alutioo of ooe part, by weight, of potash in five
parti of boiling water, and ia then allowed to dry
thoroughly, and is to be rubbed and polished as
usual. Bed beech and alder, under this treat
ment, aarame a moat deceptive resemblance to
Ataaricsn walnut. The color is fixed in the wood
to a depth of ooe or two linea.
