ditionai facts concerning the riot which occurrci at
Clinton. Miss., Saturday. A large majority of the
blacks were unarmed, having been cautioned against
carrying weapons to Ihe meeting. The difficulty was
wholly unsought by them, and they fought only in
self-defense. By 5 oclick there was not a colored
man on tbe grounds. At the same time a Vickshurs;
train brought armed men from Edwards and Bolton.
Saturday night 50(1 armed tbite men occupied Clinton
and there was quiet. On Sunday morning, at day
break, the Vickshurghers. 2.000 of whom were here,
commenced slaughtering the negroes. All the c dored
men tbey could find were killed in eold blond. Armed
