The Gate City'3 advertising columns are a sure med-! lum through which to reach the peo ple and to tell them of these offers. —The Upper Mississippi River Im provement association has sent out a bulletin calling the attention of the shippers to the practical use of the Mississippi river, in view of the ef fects of the Panama, canal. In the Catholic churches the custom of presenting a palm leaf was followed. —Easter" is just six days away. In the churches special plans are belnjr made for the Easter music which will be a feature of the services. Easter brings to a close the forty days of Lent. —Several, of the local teachers are planning to attend all or part of the sessions of the Southeastern Teachers' association in Davenport. There are a number of the local teachers who appear on the program. The sessions will begin on. Thursday and continue until Saturday. —All the robins and blueUirds which have been seen around here for the last month don't mean that spring has come, according to a Nauvoo pro phet, who says tbat the martin is if the only sure sign of spring. Any way, the frogs are singing and the kids are playing "chillies" and the girls jumping rope. Why bother about a few martin3? —There is considerable activity promised this spring among the ama teur gardeners of the city, especially among the school children, who have been asked to enter the garden con test which Is to be conducted here. Available plots in the backyards have already been staked out by the young sters, who are going to try tljeir bands at intensive farming. —The cold wind whicji blew^ most of the day recently and made walking somewhat disagreeable, failed to keep people Indoors, however. There were as many autos in evidence along the roads as there have been on some of the more pleasant Sundays this spring.
