CHICAGO, March 15, 1879.WheatDuring the week we have had feverish and excited markets. The forced telegram which so badly declined our market Friday of last week seems to have completely demoralized the smaller holders of long wheat, and a vast volume held on insufficient margins was thrown upon the market and seems to have completely demoral ised the ranks of the "longs." The result has been that with remarkably fine weather this week up to yesterday, the "bears" appeared in force, and an the market was pounded down the "bear" spirit grew intense and despite enor mous purchases of long wheat by a elan of brokers the market gave way under the pres sure. The weather was magnified into an ap proach of summer and reports coming of seed ing in southerly localities, the markets of the country gave way and the foreign markets sympathized. Yesterday we had a reminder of the fickleness of March and the result was a faltering tendency to recover. Satisfied as we are that time will prove wheat too low on the merits of the property we feel exceedingly con fident of a future rise. By the onslaught of the bears the markets may be temporarily over borne, under the influence of fine weather, but we firmly maintain that the future will de velop the fact that there is not wheat enough for the wants of the world on the basis of pres ent values. With reoeipts at the primary mar kets on the decline and exports decidedly on the increase, it appears to us that only time is required to demonstrate what a "bug-bear" is the fact of 21,000,000 bushels in sight in this country. Our correspondents in winter wheat sections (particularly Ohio and Indiana) are beginning to complain that wheat does apt dis play the green aud luxurious appearance of^WDniTPSTUY FVPsfTlTfl- If ADHIT 10 last March, and Williams Bros., of Toledo, an- WlliJJMpJIJll LYliJUlHr, fflMl/il 111 nounee that some authorities estimate the yield of 1879 at seventy-five to eighty-five millions' under 1878, attributing the anticipated de ficiency in part to a decreased acreage. There are so many slips "twixt oup and lip," that we are not dealing with the question of the orop of 1879 in our opinion of the future of the property, although it must be conceded as re gards the aext crop, the ohapter of accidents are all to the favor of the long side. There will be another serious question en tering the calculation. The bears ridi cule the idea of the germ of blighted THE ST. PAUL DAILY GLOBE, wheat being killed, but experiments prove that of well selected samples planted in hot houses, an average of about 20 per cent, have failed to sprout, and ehemioal analysis have further confirmed the experiment by assur ances of the doubtful life of the germ in a large portion of the blighted spring wheat. Farmers, as a rule, are not in a condition to bay ohoice seed, and we fully expect this ques tion to seriously enter the calculation later on. We note last week's exports a total of 1,449,680 bushels, of which over two-thirds went to the continent, and we note that from the 5th to the 11th of Maroh the charters in New York were 587,200 bushels to the continent againBt 212,000 to the United Kingdom. Keoeipts at the primary markets for the week have been 1,058,000 bushels. COMMERCIAL. lAssodated Press Markets.] Milwaukee Produce Market. MrLWAmocx, Maroh 17. FLOURQuiet and unchanged.
