Minneapolis Not Until Saturday, Positively Fire Times Ue Largest Slow mat will Visit these Cities this Season In spite of the frothy vaporing 8 of weak, bombastic managers, driven to the verge of despair by disaster, this show will come in all its overshadowing grandeur com pletely eclipsing all former efforts, and consigning to the Egyptian: darkness of deserved oblivion the false and flimsy pretenses of feeble imitators. "■'•■'' THE ONLY SHOW COMING THAT EXHIBITS EVERYTHING ADVERTISED. '■ Wo present the proofs, read them, then judge for yourselves: The folio wine: refers to a show that precedes the big show a few days, and is copied from the St. Louis Globe-Democrat, of May 5, 1882, a paper which is noted for its honest criticisms and a paper that Coup patronized ana could not gag with greenback* '':'-'■'-. '•'■■ ''■ ,'--:■■'. ■. -::;■...■ Onap'K Cleans. ■-, " :;' r The attendance at Coup's Circus is hardly as large as the management could desire, but It is quite as large as the merits of the performance warrant. As a matter of fact, the show is hardly equal to the promise which had been held out by the bill-poster, who had injudiciously performed wondeiful feats upoa his bill-boards, which have not been repeated ■in : the circus line— a proceedure which may be safe enough while traveling in | the ■. province*, but will hardly do for such a city as St. Louis. The circus talent should be largely augmented and improved in all its branches before the show under the canvas equals the pictorial display on the fences outside, and unless these two features of the circus management are made to harmonize more closely, it will hardly be safe to commend the show to its future patrons or to predict for it a very successful season. From St. Louis Daily Globe-Democrat, May 4, 1881: ■j..: £: _ - ; , .;- It can be said for the Sells Brothers, with perfect sincerity, that they give a far better per formance and present a better programme under canvas than they put on the walls or in the advertising columns of the newspapers. All who patronize their show wiil be pleased even beyond their expectations, and this is saying a great deal for a circus. From the Chicago Daily Herald, May 17, 1881: - ■,■■ ■ "■ ■ If there is one virtue above all others which, when found in a circus manager, should be extolled to the skies, that virtue is eaudor. ! That virtue is found in the Sells i Brothers, who, strange as the statement may appear to those in the habit of reading circus literature, adver tise merely what they have, and exhibit ex«ctly weat they advertise. ; Their show now on the Lake Front, at the usual spot, foot of Madison street, is a good one— an unusually good one, and the thousands of people who packed the tents yesterday appeared to think so. ,: BOMB POWERFUL COOS HEADING. '-'■" From the Dcs Moints Daily Leader of May 23, 1883, a paper that was patronized by both shows, makes this apt comparison: ".,-■■ Coup's circus was fair, but a tallow candle beside an electric light, compared with Sells Brothers' Bhoir. . . ... ■..■_. .-..,■-.•. ■ - . < .. - . - . - ■■>■■•.
