It ia a^^unctuou*, ao full of comedy that one for^get* that nothing has been said but laughs,^more through sympathy, perhaps, than^anything else; but be is satisfied. Tbe^people laugh. He gaics his point. Thegentleman from Michigan was very^glad to see so many republican fact* befrre^bim. He had been in the campaigning^business so long be could tell by looking^at an audience whether it was democratic^or republican. A republican audienc^^looked so much more inteligent. He was^a republican what little there was of him.^Reasoning by tberu.eof chance be sup^poaed tb* re were at least three or four dem^^ise rat* iu the audience. They were in good^company. Here Mr. Horr smiled and tbe^audience laughtd. He had been told that^he was harsh when speaking of the demo^^crats but he wanttd them to make a self^examination and see if it wasn't the truth^that ailed them It ir w ss the truth, thai^was what buit then, a d n it what lie said^Two ripple, emerged trom the corner* of^Mr. Horr a mouth and ran around the hack^of hi. neck and embraced. The audi-t^ce^again laughed. Thegentleman from Michigan pranced^up and down the stage and Colonel Fisk^kindly removed a robe from out of tbe way^fearing that it would be ground to powder^beneath his beels. He wanted to tell un^^people why he was a republican. He was^a republican because be was acquainted^with the history of that party and what it^htd done fortius great nation we all love^It came in fighting for the freedom of^people who w^ re enslaved and never rested^until it had broken the shackles of every^slave In America. Maybe tbe democrats^of Montana may claim tbat they are the^old aboiition party. Mr. Horr's voicegrew^soft and tender as he ssked: ^Do you^some of you democrats answer me.^ The^audi nee laughed. Lincoln was elected by^republicans Did ar y- of you democrats^help to elect him ^ En '.' Auswermesome^of you. When Lincoln took hi* seat a good^many member* of congees* got up and left^their seats. Were there any republicans^among them f Indiviooaidemocrats did their share^toward- putting down the re be lion but tbe^party diui/t. Come, now, if it did I with^some of you democrats would tell me^Whenever there was any devilment going^on there was a democrst behind it. W asn't^there^ Again Mr. Horr cmiied and tbe^audience laughed. Mr. Horr could save a^great deal ot muscular energy by having^one ^ f his agonistic facial contortions^pt-otogrspbed so he could bold up a photo^graph whenever he felt a humorous spell^ci ming on. Thegentleman from Michigan arraigned^the democratic party lor being tbe foe of^tbe greenback when the republican party^issued it for the preservation ot tbe coun^^try. He denounced it for a good many^other things, claiming all tbe virtue*^belonget to the party ^ f which he was a^truly great and shining example. Mr.Horr, to display his versatility,^talked awhile about the ballot. He said in^tbe L'nited Mates in the past twenty-five^yesr* there has never been an attempt to^rob the ballot-box that had not been at-^tempted by a democrat. They tried it on^in Maine, Cincinnati, Chicago and Indian-^apolia, and some of them got seLt to the^p^ nHerniary. They were dimocrats. He^wanted to predict that if ai.y body in this^state was sent to tbe penitentiary for try^^ing to corrupt the ballot-box it would be a^democrat. (Loud applause and a smile^from Mr. Horr.) The(peaker aaid the congressmen from^the southern states held their seat* by^shout one-third as large a vote as will be^cast fi r one congressman in Montana That^was owing to the republican, down south^being distranch sed. The principle, of the^republican party are that each man shall^csst one vote and have that vote honestly^counted. He upheld the registration sys^^tem and Australian method of voting^Ihe^outcome of republicanism. Thegentleman from Michigan grew^facetious in talking about bia love for tbe^repuDlican party and tbe love It had tor^the old aoidier. He paid bis respect, to^Mr. Cleveland for vetoing pen.ion bill,^and eulogized the old soldier, taking occa^^sion to admit that be, like Cleveland, re^^mained at home while tbe boys were at^th ^ front doing tbe fighting. He favored^the republican party because It favored^education and made it appear that in state*^here there was but little ignorance tbe^republican party was in the majority.^Ti e gentleman had 'orgo.'ten tbat be bad^stated that the e^uth would be republican^f there wa. a free ballot and a fair couot^Tbe tariff question was touched upon gin^gerly and the ansae old chestnuts popped^Alighting from the paratbute in which^be had descenaed from the protection^cloud*. Mr. Horr paid his respects to Mon^tana, praised her greatness and descanted^upon ber fertile valleys, lofty mountain*^teamed with precious metal, and said^hen God Almighty made such a country^he never would have made it had be known^it would be Inhabited by a people who^ould vote the democratic ticket. (The^sual amile and applause ) Atter some^advice to voters tbe r p aser sat down, tbe^band played ^Marching Through Georgia^^and there were no criea for any one else. Witheverything tbat Is Sew.
