ADVENTUREWITH A BULL.

ASuperh Display of Hor^rman^hlp, Fol-^lowed by ^ lIainl-to-Han^l^Kigbl anil Victory.
Mr.CharlM I)avii!i^ou, n well-known^dlockmnu of this vicinity, relates a diUKn-^lax und well m^li 1st til adventure, which be^^fell rim in the valley of the Krnukliu monn-^tninfi. lying north of this place, save a Ys-^leta, Tiius, elespi.tcu to tho Atlanta, Consti^^tution. Your ce^. respondent calling on^Lira learned the following ntirticiiliirs,^which he ,,'ives in Mr. Daviaou'sown words: j^^I hud mlilcn out to n rtinch owned by a ,^men namoel lilake. about twenty miles from !^my place, for the. purpose of looking at a lot^of imported sheep he had (M Nile. Ml wur |^retarniug when I met a Mexican with a^broken arm hobbling along tho road, who |^told me that ,\b;illhadoharged him the day ;^before and flung him mto a wauir hole,1^breaking his arm and bruising him severely^all over. The bull vua a r.ild one from tnc^monnlaius, and daugeroUBly savage from^Home cause. Yon may not I e aware of the^fact, but some years ago^litteui or twenty^now^there was a large drove o! rattle Mam-^peded near herj by the Indiana niiel driven^into the nionuf aina, where they cseaptd and^in the course of time grew perfectly wild,^for they were of a breed quite uusuited to^this county. They are very shy and are^rarely known lo have the mountainous^ncigiita, but a bnll sometimes, when driven^oil from his held by a stronger rival, will^descend to the valleys, nui often prove a^dangerous foe to encounter even on horse^^back.
The.Mexican warmd mo that the one he^had been attatued by was, doubtless, still^in the neighborhood, and that it would^stand me in band to keeps lookout fa 'him.^I had ridden on I mile or two when 1 dis^^mounted to drink of a little running stream^I had reached, and to ent my lunch. My^horse 1 left standing, without taking the^precaution of tying hini. He was a young^mustang, as nervous as A woman, and^without any apparent cause that 1 could^discover, threw up his hf ad all of a sudden,^Hlid broke down the valley in a mad gallop,^carrying, of course, mv saddle, Willi uiy^belt containing my pistols, which I bad^rather foolishly rtmoved from my waist an^hour or two before, and hung from thehorn^of my saddle.
Therewas nothing fa it but to follow .^the horse on foot, so off I put in as bad ai^humor as you cm imagine, for 1 was^already fatigued with my long ride, and a^trauip of perhaps miles was anyt hing but^inviting. 1 trudged on for an hour or two.^until my feet were cut and blistered by the :^sharp rocks, and had sat down to rest near^a clump of cot ton wood t rees, one of great^size and the rest of them mere saplings. At^that moment 1 heard a lond roar ;.nd a^crash in a bush In hind n.e. and Ml IMI d.^at a terrific pace, a huge hint k bull, eharg- r^ing straight at me. I had only ju~t time to^throw myself to one side flat on the ground^its he thundered by me. My next move was^to make for the clump of cothmuoods,^which I succeeded in reaching jusi as tin^bull turned iiuum. My hat had fallen to^the earth as I ran, and this the animal in w ^^Attacked with a ferocity and unu'dened^rage that showed me how little meiey would j^lie shown the M when his turn came, !
Havingloin the hat to pieecs with horns^and hoofs and having smelted ine out. he^commenced a circuit around the trees,^stamping, pawing and bellowing fright- I^fully. VVith his bloodshot ey^ s and long,!^sharp horns he looked like a demon. 1 was^quite unarmed, having by some unlucky^chance, neglected to put in my knife in^leaving home, and my pistols, us I said be^^fore, being in uiy saddle, and 1 w is MM n i^nnto death. The situation was a desperate^one, and my only chance consisted in doelg-^ing the bull round the trees until he should^be tired out, aud this was, indeed, a faint^hope, for the animal seemed fresh and war^^ranted to outlast the strength of tin men.^The bull charged again and again, some^^times coming against the treeM with such^force that he fell on his knees, sometimes^bending the saplings behind which 1 stood^until his horns almost reached me. There^was not a branch of the ono large tree luu^enough lo seize and climb up, and I had no^time in which to scale it between the bnll*s^cha rges.
Howlong this awful game o[ 'tonch-^wood' lantcei I canno tell, lor after the' irst^excitement of aedf-pie. ervatioi! p is-ed off.^weariness Again took |e^;scsMoii ol ire. ;u:d^It required all the instinct aud krpa of lib^in me to ki 11 me on my feet. Ken ral^^ lines the bull left me for a few se-coudn,^pacing suddenly away, bellowing bis malig^^nant discontent of my refusal to come forth^and be trampled and gored todoatb, but be^^fore I coulJ cross over to a better posit ion^he always came back nt fr.ll apt ed. My^tongue began to cleave to the roof of my^month, my eyes grew hut and niiaty, my^knees trembled under me, while a ringing^in my tars warm d mo that natntv v. ii ox.^hnnsted, and J felt it impossible to hold out^until dark.
Atlength I grew desperate, and ,U U r-^mincel to make a run for the opposite covert^the moment the bull turned from me again.^1 felt MM 1 was doomed, and thought of it^tu.til I .'.dually began to Welcome the idea^of ltd ending in any way. The bull .ecu d^to know I was worn out, and grew more^rapid and fierce in bis ohnrgis, but just^when 1 was going to sit down uttuYr ll.e^(treat tree and le^t him do his wonit, I heard^Dm rattle of a horse among the rocks above,^mid a shout that sounded like the voice of^r.n angel. Then came the burking of a dog^nnd the loud reports of a utock whip, but^the bull, with bis devilish eye* llted Set me,^never moved. t'p came a horseman at^full speed, and crack fell the lasu on^the bull's black hide, while the blood^spurted out in a loBj streak. The Mimal^turned cuvauely and clmru'd tin In.ra in; :i^In llowing with aaionished rage and pain,^but the horse wheeled r.round ju-t enough^to baltle Mm EM more^and tMtia the lnnb.^descended, cnitir.g like n long ilexihlo raz^or; bnt the infuriated bull was not to be^beaten off with t whin^he chan-cd again^and kjmin, Bttl hi had ilcI his match, for^rit, lit and 1 ft, as needed, thn wiry Spanish^in ue turned, sometime s on her MM, some-^limea on her fore legs. ofcases, and yon may depend upon it that^when a child takes the croup, it ia wholly^owing to the negligence of its parents.^True croup never appears without due and^timely warning; a few hours or ft day or^two before the attnek, the child becomes^hoarse. This hoarseness is the first indica^^tion of croup, and is a srrre sign that croup I^is to follow, unless promptly and prmierly^treated. The free use of Chamberlain's^Cough Remedy a* directed with each bottle,^under the beading, ^to prevent croup,^ will j^dispel all lymptoma of the disease. The l^first aign of croup, hoarsesxms, may be oyer-^lo. ^ked by vomg mothers or thoae not fa^^miliar with the disease. Vnder such cir-^enmstanoea, or when not properly treated,^the hoarseness becomes more marked and^tl'e child shows ayniptouis of having^taken cold, then a peculiar rough^cough is developed. Even at^this state Chambe-rlnin's Cough^Kimedy will preinent the croup, but after^the cough has developed, the croup ia liable^to appear at any moment. The proper wap^is to keep a bottle of this remedy at hand.^It costs but fifty cents and only a few doses,^or ut most, not over one-thirel of a bottle is^required to dispel all symptoms of the dis^^ease. Can you afford to risk so mnch for so^little r There is not the least danger in giv^^ing this remedy in large and freeineut doses,^which are always required, ns it contains^no injurious subi tauce. As a proof of this^fact, we refer to John I.. Olson, of Ilea^Mo.a. s, la., whose lU-ycar-old boy drank^the entire contents of a fifty oeut bottle of^Chamberlain's Cough Reumdy without the^h ast injury. For sale by H. M. Farchen a^Co.

Isfriving splendid aatisfnotion to the^trade and the sales are positively marvel^^ous, which can be accounted for in no^other way except that it is without doubt^the best on the market. Ask for and be^sure vou get the genuine. We keep it. it.^S. Halo ii Co., Drugists.
