BRIEF NEWS NOTES OF HAMILTON PREPARATIONS BEING MADE FOR ERECTION OF A NEW BUSI NESS BLOCK. Special Correspondence. Hamilton, Feb. 21.-Concrete blocks are being made for a business block on Third street for E. Erickson and Peterson brothers. The building will be located on the east side of Third street, south of the postoffice. The building will contain two stores, one to be occupied as a garage and the other will contain Peterson brothers' business, which is now located oppo site the courthouse. The building will be of concrete, the blocks being manu factured in a shed temporarily built on the rear of the lots. A. V. Platt went to Missoula yes terday to remain several days while conferring with his brother in regard to placing an apple packer he recent ly invented, on the market. Mrs. Cudner, wife of the auditor of the Bitter Root Valley Irrigation com pany, arrived last evening from Chi cago for a visit of several weeks. Superintendent P. J. Shannon re turned Friday for a short visit at Spo kane and Seattle. John McLaughlin came here last evening from Stevensville for a visit at Ravalli county's capital. R. A. O'Hara has returned from Chi cago, where he accompanied his wife and fimly, who will remain during the remainder of the winter. There is talk of an automobile club in Hamilton. A meeting of the en thusiasts was held Friday evening at the office of Dr. Robert L. Owens and much interest was manifested. One of the objects of the proposed organ ization will be to advance better roads. No steps, however, were taken toward organizing, that matter having been deferred to a later meeting. The principal topic discussed on the streets of Hamilton today is Senate Bill No. 18, which was discussed at a mass meeting last night. It is plain ly evident from the drift of the talk that the people are suspicious of the. measure and prefer to see it not be come a law. F. L. Bohart of Bozeman, who is here interesting people in a market day, went to Stevensvllle this morn ing on a similar mission. Plans for the proposed new Masonic temple have been re ceived and are now in the hands of the building committee for considera tion. According to the plans it will be the most imposing business struc ture in the Bitter Root valley. The building material will be of brick, and it will have a frontage of 60 feet and a depth of 120 feet. It will contain two store rooms on the ground floor, and a stairway leading to the upper story, where the Masons will have their lodge room. This room will have all the accessories of a modern meeting room. In addition to the main room, which will be 35x60 feet, there will be a kitchen and three club rooms. The proposed building will be located on the west side of Third street, between the city hall and the Republican block. R. A. O'Harra is considering erecting a business block adjoining the temple at the same time, which will materially add to the ap pearance of the street. -Ravalli county is 'coming to the front. Every county office shows an increase in business. The county clerk and recorder's office for the past year shows that 2,295 instru ments were filed in that office, or an average of 191 per month. Last month 327 instruments were filed, which is a record breaker for one month, and so far this month the business is even better. Up to Feb ruary 15 there were 184 instruments filed. Last Monday was the best day known, the receipts amounting to $83.10. Work commenced this week on a one-story brick building on the south side of Main street, between First and Second streets. It is being erected by Charles Smith, conductor on the Bit ter Root passenger train, and will be occupied by a saloon. Ninety-seven ,draft horses were shipped into Hamilton this week from the Big Hole country. They were purchased by the Bitter Root Valley Ir rigation company, the Como Orchard Land company and the Bitter Root Valley Orchards (incorporated), and will be used in improving their prop erty. Grover Russell, who tried to put a stop to all worldly troubles last Sun day by shooting himself, is able to be about. The first electric furnace lit this country for annealing, tempering and hardening metals has been erected at Schenectady, N. Y. It consists of a crucible containing metallic salts melted by an alternating current of low voltage. The British Royal Meteorological society has awarded the Symons gold medal for 1908 to L.
