ST. NICHOLAS HOTEL
Broadway, New Yorlt. '
WHEN completed six years ago the St. Nicholas
was universally pronounced tbe most magnifi
cent, convenient and thoroughly oiganized estab
lishment of tbe kind on this continent. What it was
then it remains to-day without a rival in size, in
sumptuousness, and in tbe general elements of com
fort and enjoyment. The Hotel bas accommodations
for 1000 guests, including 100- complete suites ot
apartments for families. Six hundred persons can
be comfortably seated at the tables of its three pub
lic dining rooms, and nothing that modern art has
devised tor the convenience and social gratification
of the traveling public bas been omitted in its plan,
or is neglected in its practical details. The early rep
utation of the hose at home and abroad, derived
from its magnitude, its superb appointments, and its
home-like comforts and luxuries, has been enhanced
every year by tbe unwearied exertions of the propri

Founded 1816, - .
THB next session of this Institution begins first
Monday in September. Preparation week for
classification and rooming of pupils, the last week in
August. Note tbe followiug advantages:
1. The Buildings in extent and fitness for
School purposes, domestic comforts, health, exercise
and convenience are wholly nnequaled in the United
Slates. We challenge a comparison.
8. Xbe SixAeres or Lawn and Shade
are enclosed so as to secure the greatest privacy and

sports and innocent amusements. ;: .
St. lMonSectrisn. The Academy belongs to
fifty gentlemen represented by seven of their num
ber of difierent denominations, pledged to preserve
the non-sectarian character of the school.
4. The maternal Care of the Boarding pu
pils is entrusted under tbe constant supervision of
tbe Principal, to ladies or culture and education, who
devote their whole time to the happiness and comfort
of the pupils. .
6. Tbe Health of the Institution is
unprecedented in the history ot schools. Ony three
deaths nave occurred among tne pupils in over forty
yeus. me neaitn statistics or the Institution are
among its highest recommendations. - ,
6. The Boomi are large, well furnished, and
7. Security from Fire. The buildings are
heated by steam and lighted with gas, so that the
pupils are secure from the ordinary accidents accru
ing from stoves, fire places, and moveable lights.
Besides tbe evenness of temperature adds greatly to
the health of the school. -
- 8. Regulations which years have shown to'
be most salutary, will be continued in their full force
The fewest possible-changes will be made in the
rules and general arrangements of the Academy.
9. The Faculty is composed or thirty-five
teachers and attaches , most of whom were associated
with my predecessor. In the Literary Department,
the teachers have bad long and successfu 1 experience
and most of tbem in the Old Academy. In the Music
and Srnamental Departments tbe Teachers, Proles
rors and Artists are of high celebrity. A superior
Harpist has been recently engaged for the ensuing
