EXOAliNtE CirUINitO. rittaburg Oemmermal: It is true we have nothing like the number of boeiti now that we had years ago, but it should be boree in mind that boats are of much greater capacity now than then. The John L. Ithoads or Mollie Moore of the present day will carry al moet as much as half a dozen steamboats thirty years ago. In the palmy days of steamboating --loung efore the Iron horse was within many miles of Pattsburg-there were but few bouts with a oapacity exceeding 400 or 500 tone ° atreas at the present time it is nothing unusual fo. one of Capt. Gray's fine towboats to leave here with 2000 to 2500 tons. We hear agood deal said about the ratroade monopolizing the carry. tug trade and that steamboating was a thing or the past, but we have every reason to believe that the shioments both South and West have been much larger from Pittsburg this spring by ,iver than by rail. It is not reasonable to expect that in these days of "fine margins" people will pay 80 or 35 cents per owt. to ht. Louio by rail when they can ship by river at 12?/ to 15 cents, as the diff renoe in the noet of traneportation is a good margin for proml, and there is about the same difference to all polint accessible by river. The Pittsbnrg Dispatch reminds its readers that the "steamer liawkeve State, built and commanded b) Ct mmodore it. 0. Gray, made the ran from It. Iouts to St. Paul, 820 miles up. stream, in 2 days, 21 hours, 49 minutes, in July, 1867. It is was tall running and has never been beaten. The Hawkeye also made the round trip, 1640 miles. asd did her regular business, inside of a w.ek " Cl.oisNAti, May 7.-The Keokuk Northern Line Packet Company sold at auction, at Daven port, on Thursday, property for sli,600, which cost the company $55,000 in 1866. The property is 8.0 feet frontage, and extends from Front street to high water mark. The buildmgs are four stories high, and about 25 years old. A man named Flynt is building at Duluth a sailtoat on the double hull prncip.e, with which he proposes to take the shine out of all his com petiutors. It cnesiets of an ordinary boat cut in two lengthwise, the Tuner sides boarded up, and the two bulls thus formed placed about four feet apart, with a strong decking over all. This w.ll be a nov lty on the lake, and a'l interested in faet boats are watch ng for its appearance. Capt. Parsot, the veteran steamboatman of the Tazsc, has purchased the large and commodious .Lon-shed on the river near the center of Green W and intenes making it a free storehouse for n, freight, etc. He intends, also, mak ming l aidiag there for boats, with an eleva tor I'rring fteigt from low water mark into the house. Jhn W. Murphy, engineer of the steam. ar Bird, takes the ground that Pearl river be made navigable the year round by cuting th eheean of the West Pearl river.
