Loie, June 18.-The river is steadily rtll nag at this point, and is expected to go down so rapidly that within two weeks boats may be i sticking on the bars between it. Louis and Jairo. The t. Louis and New Orleans Pool line has made a general reduction in rates from the ig. ures prevailing until near the close of last week. The rates to VYcksburg and New Orleans were twenty cents per 100 pounds, and forty cents for dour; now they are fifteen and thirty cents, with a correponding reduction to all way points, in cluding Memphis. The Caroodelet d nearly ready to begin taking in cargo for New Orleans. The James Howard loads for New Orleans this week. Owing to the breaking of machinery in one of the steam mills on which the Yaeger was depend log for freight, her departure is postponed and she will leave at 5 this evening. The John L. Rhoads, whioh sunk on the falls at Wave Rock, was bound from Pitteburg to 9t. Louis, with a fullcargo. The dispatch says the lies straight, and can be raised. The Rhoads is owned by Capt. Vandergriff and others in Pitte burg, and is an excellent business steamer, and has been very succoessful. MExMpurs, June 16.--Sprgt. McElroy, in charge of this signal station, reports the actual rain-fall within the forty-eight hours at 13.52, and also that the rate fell only twenty-three hours out of the forty-eight. However unseasonable his re port may seem to those who would be surprised at a morniog dew that would Host a steamboat, it la backed up by tue practical observation of thousands of citizens, who say they never wit nesseed such an outpouring of the clouds since Adam was a suckling. It rained so hard here that every bhanghai chicken that attempted to piLek up a grain of corn during the rain was strangled to death. The centre of tLe streets is ten inchesor a foot I:igher than at the enrbstonee, yet the streets were a continous sheet ot water, running in torrents from one side to the other. Bridges that were buolt over Bayou Gayoso, three feet above the highest water ever known, were covered three and a half feet under water. Skiffs were sunk in the river by the water that fell into them. The coal men kept their tugs busily engaged pumping the water out of their coal flats, and besides had hundreds of hands at work with hand pumps. Localities on Nonoonnah Creek, where water had never been seen before, were covered 4 or 5 feet deep by the overflow of the creek. Nearly every bridge in the county-and they are many-was washed away by the flood. Hnuses were cari d away from localities hitherto considere I safe from the encroachments of the highest rises of the flood. [Little Rock Gazette, June 16.] The gauge last evening showed 26 6-10the feet of water in the channel, a fall of but 4-10ths of a foot in 24 hours. The Maumelle and Inspector were the boats in port yesterday. The former boat discovered and passed through a new out-off about nine miles below the city, into which the officers of the boat are of opinion the main chan nel of the river will be diverted. The new cut-iff is this side of Terry's ferry, is about five miles in length, and its opening has been the salvation of the plantations of Gen. Churchill, Col. Pember on, Dick Sorugge and others along the bend. When the Maumelle passed up, the farms along by Bed Fork and Swan lake were entirely under water, while at New Gascony and Pouth Bend the levees were being anxiously guarded, as a break was hourly expected. Mr. Walter Caldwell informs us that the water has averaged aut thte bet I dsepth in Argents, whioh is now obiletened byt inhablltanteae"the Venlae of Arkanas." White river rose seven feet at Batesville last Tuasday, nd apt. Albert Smith's steamer Alberta left that day for Buffalo shoals, 200 miles abhov there. The United States Iron steamer Thos. 1. Flor ence sprung a leak and sunk in Oyprees Bayou, about twenty miles from Jeffersoo, Texas, on Thursday, the 17th inst. When the officers it charge found she was leaking they set the siphone to work and but for the faot that the pipee gave way, te boat would have been kept afloat. Finding she was bound to settle, the officers found a level place and let her down straight. Preparations are making to raise her again. The Florenoe was built about two years ago at St. Lo.tll.
