Through a speocial noticoe. in another column, the patrons of the Bertha and Big Sunflower, the Wednesday and Maturday packets to the At chtafalaya, are offered unusual inducoments to ascl by lhese boates Attention is cailed to it, The Golden City is to leave Cairo for this city to-day. The piles being hauled to the landing are not intended for an extension, as surnilsed by us Sunday, but are for re pairs to the apron front uaI To e sh PMr - rio.w imtrf. from iaontto fit. Lus streets. Work was commenced yt river there was received In the last year. ending August 3t from Ried river 141 111 bales cotton; Black. Ounchita and its tributaries, 71,452 hales; and the Atchafaiaya, its tributaries and Bayou Toeho. ns,431 bales making a total of 251,126 bales agaenst 148,1(52 baIes for the year 1revious. fThe difference in receipts (cing divided as follows: led arver, 21,687: Ouachita. rN.e44* Atchafalaya, 941s. Whl n the fact is known that, the receipts of cotton front all quarters are short of what they were] for the previous year of 14s76-76, yet in the above mentioned tributaries th I diorease is out of pro portion. For instance the roceipts by river last year from Vicksburg, the Bends and Yazoo amounted to 331 871 bales, against ao0,910 bales in 1876-74, adifferenceof 11),03i bales, while in the Ouachita the difference with a m uch smaller total, was 68,644 b les, the discrepancy being over 4 per cent. We mention these de tails for the purpose of showing the evil that resultedli to the river interests by the almost en tire susIpension of navigation in Old river dur ing the months, or a part, of October, Novem ber, December and January last, and the im portanne of kneping tnis part of the river open. With cotton, like other products, when it is di verted from its legitimate channels of trans portation, to use a common expression, you can't always sometimes tell where it will go. and the conclusion. besid' s being It safe onn, that much of it sought otlher markets, is an answerable argument in favor of keeoping open the navigation to these tributaries. A Memphis paver says the Thomnpson Dean will run to Lake Providence, leaving Now Or leans every Wednesday. apt.
